4Runner Flooring

I'm wanting to rip all the carpet out of my 1988 4Runner and replace with vinyl flooring in the passenger area, and bedliner in the cargo area. Actually I was thinking of using bedliner throughout the whole vehicle, but only putting the vinyl floor over top of it in the passenger area. I had also thought about using some sound deadening material under the vinyl.

So I'm curious, has anyone else done this with their older Toyotas? Does the sound deadening material really do much if I'm not putting it throughout the entire vehicle?

I don't want to simply bedline the whole thing and then just drive it like that. That tends to leave wires exposed or force me to find new places to hide them, and it will allow for more road noise.

For what it's worth, I'm also considering building a small-ish drawer system for my cargo area. Nothing overly fancy or large, but enough to give me some lockable tool storage for when I drive around with the soft top or top down. So the drawers would likely be made of plywood and sit right on top of the bedliner.

I'm also curious if anyone has a particular vinyl floor kit or manufacturer they would recommend? I found a few offerings with a quick google search. But as with most things, you don't know how good the fit will be until it's already been paid for and half installed in the vehicle.

Couple options I stumbled upon, anyone use any of these suppliers? Perhaps even for other vehicles?

I did the entire interior floor of the '85 4runner with Herculiner. I didn't put anything over it and am happy with it. It seems to dampen sound well enough. I just put a piece of foil insulation under the drivers' floor mat to deflect some of the exhaust heat from underneath. The wires are pretty well hidden under the door sill strips or under the seats. I'd be worried about moisture collecting under the vinyl. That could get gross, and wouldn't be good for the floors.

I drilled or removed most of the floor plugs so I can clean out the interior with a hose. It also comes in handy for running without a top.

I supposed I could put a good heavy coating of bedliner on the floor.....anyone I talk to seems to think that bedliner will be good enough, especially considering that I'll be driving around with the top down and listening to the tire and wind noise in the summer.

A friend of mine also pointed out the obvious here. To just bedline the floor and give it a whirl, then if I want to add vinyl later I can.
