I don't think 5-8" would make it that much bigger really, a little bit applied solely to legroom would go a long ways. A crew cab F-150 is a freaking huge truck and really has more legroom in the back than anyone could ever hope to use. How they can sell a truck with that much extra room for $60-70k and not have rear captain's chairs as an option is amazing...

I see a midsize being like my wife's Edge. Passenger seat gets scooted ahead with rear facing behind it. Shorter wife is is fine over there with car seat behind her. I drive. I can ride over there in a pinch but my knees are in the dash.

Beats the ever loving tar out of my Supercab F-150 that flat out does not fit a rear facing in the back and only has room for me and little guy up front.

One could NEVER had enough space in the back. F150 Supercrew's back seat is AWESOME for family travels. I would never wish for anything smaller.
And I'm not sure about your comment about rear captains chairs? In a truck? Why? I would like an option to have a slide/recline option, like they did in the Tundra. But you'd lose all the under the seat storage.

Too much space just adds bulk the truck. When I am 6'-3" and my knees are like a foot away from the seat in front of me... I think we have more than "enough"

I think it would be an easy cash grab for some to have optional nice seats in the back. A $70k Platinum truck has more or less the same crappy back seat as a $35k STX. They sure have the room built into the truck already for it to be an option.

The biggest draw to me for the new Ranger is that it is not the bloated oil tanker that the F-150 (or any other fullsize) has evolved to be.

I have seen a few crew cabs with rear captains seats. Although I'm pretty sure they were done aftermarket. Did older King Ranches or Denalis have rear captains seats?

KR did back when they had the neat saddle looking leather:

Sounds like a midsize is what you're looking for. Pretty much the size of your 10th gen F150, I'm guessing. Schlepping kids, road trips with friends---I'll gladly take an extra foot of legroom.

I'm good on a 4-seater pick up truck.

A midsize is about as much smaller than my current truck as a new F-150 is bigger.

Given the option I would rather have a new 99-03 crew cab sized truck but no dice.

I've heard the same from the Tundra crowd. 1st gen is the "goldilocks."

I don't get it, personally. What are the downsides of any 1/2 ton trucks out today compared to trucks 15 years ago? You're talking the exact same width and maybe 6" difference in length. But more comfortable, safer, capable, and efficient.

Can't see out of it. Feels huge. Bigger and bolder than anyone has bigger and bolded before is the theme. Bed is stupid deep. They are just unnecessarily tall/bulky all around.

Somehow on paper they are supposedly the same size. My 4x4 on 265/75-16's (basically the biggest OEM tire) is dwarfed when I park beside a newer one. And newer ones feel bulky when drive them. I can easily touch the bed floor of mine and get heavy items out of it (like my new tires yesterday) while standing on the ground beside the truck.

Meh on comfortable, for sure newer is safer, mine does what I need it to do and 5mpg difference is not really that big of a deal.

A new Ranger is much safer than what I have, rated to tow about the same and gets about the same if not a little better on mpg as a EB F-150.

I sit in a newer Ranger and it just feels like home. The dash isn't obtrusive, I can see over the hood and out of the truck nicely. I sit in a newer F-150 ('18 at the time) and the dash/hood seemed about shoulder high from my driving position and like it went out forever. It just does nothing for me. I am 6'-3" tall so it isn't like I am a really short guy either.

And as a minor thing the color palette is also very boring for an F-150. XLT has black, white, SIX SHADES OF GRAY, three reds and two blues. With that much "variety" just about every one I look at looks like someone I know's truck. It is like "you can get any color you want as long as it is black gray." Ranger at least has the neat Orange (Saber) that I like so another +1 for that too.

Ranger isn't perfect, there are some tweaks I would do given the chance but I like the bones of it a lot more.

Yup, you are the target market for midsize trucks. Wish my family could comfortably fit into one. I'd have less desert pin striping!

I think a big reason a lot of Tacomas in Canada are CCLB's is that until 2017 or 2018, if you wanted an auto trans, you had to get a 6' box. CCSB's only came with a manual until '17 or '18. I can't recall for sure what year they started offering an auto in a CCSB.
Yeah, it's a new trend for sure! It would've happened a year or two into the 3rd gen I think. A friend of mine had a 2017 DCSB Trd Off-Road with an auto trans. It's the first time I remember seeing this. I'm guessing 2017 is when it changed?

For what it is, the Ranger has pretty good rear legroom. Beats the snot out of my extended cab Tacoma...it's all relative!
Yeah, it's competitively sized for sure. In between the Colorado and Tacoma and generally compares nicely to an extended cab/quad cab full size. I'm good with the overall cab dimensions for the most part. I wouldn't object to an extra inch or two, but a reworked 60/40 split seating solution / flatter load floor would be the main requirement for me.

With a rear facing seat, you gotta move it in the middle position to fit.

That is what made me get a fullsize instead of a midsize. I tried to put my daughters car seat in the back of a crew can Tacoma and it was laughable (especially when combined witth the price, gutless motor, and mediocre tranny).

There is a spacer kit you can get that will shove the rear seat 2" forward a d allows the back to recline some. It's not adjustable, but it's a cheap way to add some comfort.

With the first kid, no problem. 1st gen Tacoma DC. Kid and all accessories fit in fine. Tried to make due with 2nd kid. Nope, not if we want peace love and harmony. Third kid, lost my mind and went midsize for a bit. Thought with the wife’s van, we’d be ok. Nope. Back to full-size. Kicked the Tacoma to the curb.

When kids are grown, I’d like to get back to a midsize though. Probably a Gladiator.

I thought that when I'm older and my daughter has moved out that I'd do that, or go to an extended cab full size. Then I remembered that I'd be back in the same boat as soon as I became a grandparent...lol.

Also... The back seat of an F150 can hold a BJs shopping trip with ease...lol.

Bah, not getting a truck to haul grandkids around. Can’t make it that easy to become the default babysitters!!

Actually, I’d most likely get a regular cab 1 ton to haul around a FWC. Travel the continent with the wife.
