5x8 Wells Cargo V Nose back country camper conversion

After selling my Jeep, buying a couple of other 4x4's, a popup camper, and a boat... I've run out of storage room for my 5x8 V nose Wells Fargo Converted Cargo Trailer.

This trailer is really nice. So nice that it was featured in the September edition of 4 Wheel Drive Magazine (see "Gimme Shelter" article on page 14.) I've towed this trailer about 4,000 miles. Probably 25% has been on back country roads and trails. It has held up very well. Except for a couple of dings from tree branches and flying gravel it is straight and in excellent condition.

The build thread for this trailer is here:

And I have posted a few pics on Picasa web at:

Looks like a nice trailer, I saw it in the mag and when I saw the title to your post here, I thought of that article right away.

Looks intriguing....... I'm going to give it some thought.

I've owned two Wells Cargo trailers and love them. I think something like this might serve my needs better than an AT style trailer, I hate tents!

Do you know what the height of the trailer is to the top of the roof vent?

my first WC trailer was my "camper" too.

Sorry about the slow response, but I've been off the grid a few days. The overall height to the top of the vent is just under 7' 10". I've had it into my garage with an 8' door. The vent is the newer "low profile" model of the Fantastic Fan 3 speed. I originally planned to add cargo racks, but they raised the clearance 4 inches, and they are only rated for ladders, not heavy gear. Besides, the cargo trailers are nice because you can load them down low for a more favorable COG on the trail.

Can you give a link to some interior shots?

Hi Hadley,

The build thread (link in the first post here) has a lot of interior, including showing the frame, wiring, windows installation, bed, and finished shots.

The picasaweb album has a few of the finished nterior ishots.

The article in 4 Wheel Drive has several shots of the interior, also. If there are any specific shots you don't find on those links, let me know and I'll be happy to post them up on the Picasaweb album.

It would make a nice addition to my other Wells Cargo, and this one would be perfect behind a JK-U that I don't yet have.

Still thinking about it.

. . . Still thinking about it.
It's very nice work, and given what's gone into it, it seems a good bargain. And the low weight is a definite plus. I'm the very last person who needs this, and I was still tempted. :sombrero:

Yes, it is perfect for pulling behind a Jeep. When I took my long vacation last year I put everything in if for an extended trip (32 days) including 2 large dutch ovens, dutch oven table, bbq, propane stove, luggable loo, fishing gear, etc. I ran across the scales in Oregon and it was just under 2000 pounds. It pulled like a dream. I don't think I'd hesitate to pull it with a TJ or LJ.

Just a quick reminder... this nice little trailer is still available, and the owner is motivated to sell it! (Wife says too many vehicles in the driveway = big motivation)

OK, folks. I am willing to lower the price to $3,500 to try and get you off the fence. I'd like to sell this trailer soon to that I can store my boat at home for the coming fishing season here in Saint George.

BTW... This is a very nicely finished trailer. You won't be disappointed! :)
