6.0 Ford and Snorkel

Just one thing, you really will have to move the battery to do this ... I would think to a lower position is ideal. I say this because going around the battery would prove circuitous and I don't believe there's enough room to go over the battery.

Just my observations, having stared into my engine bay thinking about this project,

As Mark said, I would really consider whether or not you need a snorkel - on my '95 power stroke I run an aftermarket cone filter & have never had a water ingress problem. I've done Medino pass during the run off & had water crest my hood through one stream crossing - just maintain slow momentum so that there is a sort of bow wave in front of the truck. On a side note there is one spot on the trail where I had to climb a rock that Jeeps etc... go around & my FWC was only 2'' from a tree on the other side - my frame mounted nerf bars scraped on the rock on the drivers side which is the side your LP tank is on I believe - be careful but definitely go - during run off is the absolute best time to see the Sand Dunes & surrounding area IMO.

Thanks for the reply masterplumber and at this point I will not be considering having a snorkel on for Medino pass for next month. I will take in your consideration about the tightness of the track and hopefully don't do too much scraping on the way up and back. I do need to put a skid plate under that lp tank soon.

The dirt roads out my way flood every spring. But they get washed out and slick as well. Anything on less than a 38'' Super Swamper is NOT going to make it through that, if the water reaches bumper height. When the water gets that high, I turn around. We've been stuck many time right around that height. And with the new truck, I don't want water in the cabin anyways.

So a snorkle is useless to me. As for dust. 4 air filters cost nothing, and fit under the seat. So make sure you actually can make use of one, otherwise you end up looking like another expo poseur. Which is becoming quite popular. An SD with a snorkle and no pin striping......lolz.
