6 lug hubs?

I may be cheaper to but a axle with said stuff already installed. Then sell your stock axle to someone else. Also keep a look on your local Craigslist I have seen several over the past few months here in Pittsburgh used for 100 -150 with brakes and all.

Depending on what year the 416 is,, if its newer and has the normal axle type set-up,, or the older(most are this way) floater style,, same sized inner and outter bearing.. the older style haven't seen any hubs that will fit.. but the newer style can be done at any good trailer supply,, those have a smaller outter bearing,, the hubs can be swapped out..
Which do you have?

That should have the large dust cap that almost covers to the rim.. This would be the floater type.. I have not seen any drums to convert that axle.. Your best bet would be picking up a new axle from a place like trailerparts.com in the right width.. You can get the spring perchs taped to the axle instead of welded so you can fit and weld them on yourself.. I'm planning to do this myself on my 416,, its usually cheaper to get a new 3500# axle than 2 good wheel spacers.. The axle (w/o brakes) is under $100..

I was also thinking of giving my hub to my machinist to figure out a way to convert it to 6 lug.

A hub can be drilled and studs pressed in, but going from 5 on 5.5 (I believe) to 6 on 5.5 is difficult. Any 5 lug pattern to a 6 lug pattern is difficult.

Adapters are difficult on this axle because of the size of the large center dish, if an adapter could be made it would have to be a two piece, expensive.

The best bet, as people have recommended, is to get a new axle. You can upgrade to electric brakes and even keep the parking brake feature if you want to.

Go with a 3500 lb axle and work out the width taking into account rim back spacing and tire width. Change out your leaf spring packs for something at least as long and softer.

I've priced out the adapters for these,, they end up being very thick and I do believe the 6 bolt had to be a two piece.. I like the idea of electric brakes and keeping the p-brake.. or you could go with the AT kit for ind. suspension.. from the pics it looks great..

Check your hub for inner and outer bearing numbers. The M416 manual provides the bearing numbers. If they match the manual, then it is a Type 84 axle and you can buy drums, hubs and electric brakes to fit them in any bolt pattern including 6 lug.

PM me and I can help with sources and pricing.

I just got my new axle for my M416 build cut custom length, 6x5.5 hubs, electric brakes, and ubolt kit for $311 shipped. Got it from www.hendersonwheel.com , give them a call they might have something that will work for your old axle.
