6g72 con rod bolts

When disassembling the 6g72 and removing the pistons, do the con rods need to be replaced each time or can they be reused?

Another thought is to price out the bolts from the dealer or other reputable source... If it isn't too expensive and time allows, just replace.

For the 6g74, the manual says you can reuse bolts as long as the threads haven't necked down. It also says you have to turn them an extra 90 to 100 degrees after torquing, so to me that says TTY and they should be replaced just to be safe. Not sure if the 6g72 is the same. ARP does make some nifty rod bolts for your application though.

*edit: Just realized you were asking about the rods themselves. There's no indication that they need to be replaced. The manual calls for marking them for correct reassembly.

Thx after reading my original post I did mean to ask about the rod bolts. I look in the FSM for the 6g72 and I could not find any info about reuse/replace. It might be better safe than sorry and replace.

Check what the manual says regarding torque values for the rod bolts. If it only lists a torque value you should be ok to reuse them as many times as you like assuming they aren't otherwise damaged.

If there is a torque value and then an extra step of turning the bolts to a specific number of degrees, that is a torque to yield bolt. You could probably reuse them once if there's no damage but I would replace them to be safe.
