7.3 L diesel engine maintenance and performance thread.

The thought is that by wrapping the exhaust, you keep the heat in the pipe, reducing heat soak, thereby increasing exhaust gas velocity. This in turn increases scavenging on the intake valve side and draws more cool air into the combustion chamber and draws heat away from the turbo and such.

After doing a bit of interweb research, I'm not sure that reducing heat soak (ambient heat impacting the engine) would have an impact on the VELOCITY of the exhaust gasses, since those can only go out the end of the tailpipe, but I agree that the heat escaping the pipe can impact the TEMP of the engine itself, the intake air, etc, which would have an impact on EGTs. Not sure if I buy 150* difference just from wrapping, but I will take it at face value
