I would get 18mpg with my 7.3l ambo, on flat interstate going 55mph.. Granted I had it swapped for an 03' 7.3l TD so you can install eco tunes

Hi, 1st time posting here. I have recently been looking for an ambo, but not too many appeal to me here in northwest PA :(. Also, being able to stand up is important. I am 5'10 and looks like most ambos are around 5'6" tall. That one listed looks pretty nice, but it is a tad pricey.

If its a tad bit too pricy, you won't be able to find a well kept 4x4 ambo. Especially with 5'10" headroom, that usually calls for a medium duty ambo.. I have one at my shop right now being converted into a camper, and just the ambo was $39,000..

Yeap. Type 2 ambos look like a van with a fiberglass top. Youll have a bit more headroom than most boxes out there. I have a type 2 and Im 6’2. Its about 5’10” clearance inside. Its fine because most of the time your going to be looking at the cutting board. Counters or sitting down etc. but if you really really want to have a full height ambo box etc. your gonna have to throw down some $$ especially if its 4x4

I never tracked the exact MPG in my 4x4 7.3 Ambulances, my mini mod got a lot more MPG then my F350 Ambo and it was much faster. I did get 20 MPG driving 1000 miles to Florida in my 2000 7.3 4x4 Excursion. The worst it ever got was 16.5 MPG that truck was run on Amsoil after it hit 300 miles. I never calculate MPG anymore but I will tell you that the SRW trucks with lower gear ratios do a lot better then DRW trucks. I have owned 7.3's that got 10 on a good day. (F450s and F550s)

I am 100% positive that my 100 series Landcruiser does worst then my excursion ever did. A friend had a 2wd 7.3 Excursion with intake, exhaust, and a programmer and swore that he got 23 MPG.

Yeap. I also had a 2001 Excursion 4x4 7.3. They are great for highway mpgs. Especially with a tune. On the other hand my F350 crew cab dually 7.3 4x4. I never once calculated mpgs. The 1995 type 2 Ambo I bought for the camper build out, Is 4x4 and the earlier 7.3 PSD. I bought it mostly to avoid smog fees here in California and I always have liked the older diesels. I did calculate mpgs with it around 15-16.5 so far. But lots of it city driving not so much highway. It has 4.10 gears front and back with dual Dana 60s. So highway cruising is about 55-58mph and its about 1750-1850rpms. It hauls ass from a stop. And a running start. But its also almost empty inside for now. Anyways.
