Ok for this weekend's Offroaders Net..

Sunday 5pm MST/PDT
Western Reflector 9251 or other odd # node
Topic "Coolers, Fridges and other Food Storage Issues"
once we get this rolling we can work on having "net control" and other such things but for now it seems all we can do to get folks on board

I will be at a pool party with other offroaders and would like to demo this setup to generate interest.

Please post any questions or if you would like to test irlp access in advance

For those new or if you have forgotten previous threads:
1st read your manual for how to access repeaters and manually enter dtmf tones...you will need to know this
there are only 2 dtmf codes you need
73 disconnects from the node
XXXX is the 4 digit code for any node/reflector

go to irlp.net
on the left look for "node info" click on it
look down the page for the pdf file node list...save & print that for your rig
look for a node near you or a few of them...connect just like you would a regular repeater...
on the node info page look at the "connected nodes and reflector status" this page will tell you what channels on the western reflector are free...you should try to hit 9250 (the main channel) and chat before the Offroaders Net as a test...to do that just access the node near you...listen to see if it is in use (you can also check on irlp.net...see if it is listed as idle).
Then key your mic and say something like "KE7NKP accessing the western reflector" and keeping your mic open type 9250 or whatever node you want.

Remember there are a couple of repeaters and an internet connection so make sure you pause 1 sec after you key the mic before talking, then pause 1-2 sec after the other person speaks to allow breaks and repeater lag.

Please post questions if you have them

I'll try to be there! Still need to test the local 70CM IRLP node...the other is connected to the WIN System.

Im gonna test drive my local Node tonight then hopefully be out on the 'net' Sunday night.

Question: I just printed out the Node list. Do i like go to prison or something if i try and hit a node in another country? It would be really cool to hit Antartica :D

the system is designed to be global and give folks who aren't HF a chance to connect with other countries...
It just uses the internet to help make repeater to repeater connections.

I am glad to see the responses...everyone should give it a quick try before Sunday afternoon and please post and questions or problems.

So im using a local node to connect to say the Antartica node. I have permission from my local node to use it.. do i need permission from the receiving side too?

crudamundo...

The IRPL node I basically purchased my new radio to use, the 442.35 mhz node #3182 in Prescott, is going off the air this weekend, possibly even tonight.

I made a clean contact on it this afternoon to Tucson node #3924, and after completing the call, had the node owner call me and fill me in on the details...

They are buying a new repeater and will be moving the 440 Mhz node to a simplex 2M in town. The 442.35 node was up on Glassford Hill (the large volcanic mound between Prescott and Prescott Valley) and I had great line of site to it from Chino Valley.

Long story short, I doubt I'll be able to get out to the reflector on Sunday...

I'm not sure I'll be home in time to participate, but I have been meaning to learn this function. I'll be around for future attempts. Thanks for the thread. Mark: I still have that node info you sent me a while back, never got to try it, now yours is going offline. That sucks!

I won't be able to participate.
I'll be up north in the cooler country!

Hey Ed,
Check and see if there are any nodes where you are going...it would be cool to get a check-in from someone on a trail/camping.

Mark,
you gotta go buy a lotto ticket since you have used up your bad luck...you bought the dual band to hit that 70cm repeater and now they are changing it to 2m :)
Well at least for the future you will have many more options...

Glad to see this idea still has interest and I look forward to making it a regular thing that folks can use and enjoy, soon we will have to start talking about "net control" and picking different folks to take turns.
Thanks everyone

Chuck, I've still got active IRLP nodes available, but they don't allow the use of the multiple user reflector nodes.

My radio install should be complete tonight. It's operable now, I need to mount the face and speaker as well as hide the wires. I hope to access a node today. Hopefully I'll be able to join you guys sunday...

IM STOKED, i tested my local node last night and connected to the western reflector and the odd # for the net on sunday. Worked just fine. Even played with the cool time stamp option :) I should be on the net SUNDAY if i remember and dont have anything going around that time.

I tried connecting to the Antartica node too.... worked flawlessly! So cool! All the way around the world!
