The exhast melted the rubber on my rear leaf spring.... Can I replace it with the rubber piece from an 87 xj leaf spring...and how in the heck do I get the rubber out of them and back in?

Exhaust pipe was short so it heated the rubber inside the leaf spring..... $90 at midas to replace the section if pipe that was breaking up.

The rubber piece will need to be ordered from tuff country, with labor and all...about $150 (high end estimate)

Never even thought about the exhaust pipe melting the rubber....tough lesson when all lessons are expensive right now....

go to autozone get a 45 deg piece of exhaust pipe and a clamp to divert the exhaust, about 12 bucks, then get a stock replacement bushing for about 30 bucks. go home burn out or pound out the old one and put in the new one

Going to try to knock the old one out....the pipe was broke as it went over the frame....so replaced it. While on the lift, found a loose bolt that ties the lift and the axle togetherImageUploadedByTapatalk1355616048.394164.jpg

Thanks for the input....les scwab got the part ordered....only charged me for the part and $15 labor....so I had them do it....that was time I could put in on second gig and make more anyway so the ROI worked out for me....

That loose bolt appears to be your rear trac bar...I'd need a more inclusive pic to be sure but that's a pretty fair guess. If it is and that is a YJ, you could actually remove that bar all together. A trac bar on a leaf sprung Jeep is pointless. Plus it exerts extra pressure on the frame that isn't needed.

I keep hearing both sides of that....does it help stability on the road though? Will get a better pic posted....

Not at all! A sway bar would at the cost of flex (just like a front one) but a trac bar on a leaf sprung vehicle does nothing positive for you. Honest. Don't believe me then just disconnect one end and tie it up then drive around a bit. If your running both front and rear TBs I'd yank 'em out. Did just that on my last YJ and never looked back.

you know, the Dude abides
I ran no track or sway bars for a year starting in 2010. I put the sway bar back on when my springs settled and got softer, hauled the track bars to the dump.
