95 SR Cranks and starts only under Wide open throttle

I have just acquired a new to me 150K mile 95 SR. It will start with the throttle fully opened but dies when you put it in gear. My guess will be to start with fuel filter, fuel pump etc... It seems to be a fuel issue but just wondering if there are any insider issues that these have. I've searched the forum but wanted reassurance. Most of my experience is with Rovers and Domestic trucks. This is my second montero as my first was a brand new 97 that I traded off for a decade or so of Land Rover addiction.

Thanks in advance,

Ross

Looking for that thing i just had in my hand...
So starting under WOT do you mean it will only start and run at WOT? 7000 RPMS or is it running at lets say 1200 RPMS at WOT?

Could be a intake leak after your mass air flow sensor (although Mitsu computers typically have a limp mode to prevent this problem), next could be A TPS issue try unplugging it and running in limp mode, also check your throttle body.

Because i can't resist, your mechanical experience is with Rovers so do we assume you typically pay a mechanic to do your work or since you're also experienced in domestics that you typically shotgun parts until it runs again?

Welcom to the Mitsu forum :coffeedrink:

Thanks for the reply? But seriously, It will only start with the go pedal to the floor (WOT) and revs under 1000 rpms.

I've turned wrenches on all of my previous rovers from D90's to Disco's to Range Rover Classics and couldn't have justified keeping them running if not. I've physically replaced heads, total engine rebuild etc... Domestically, I have stripped and rebuilt a 69 Firebird from the ground up as a teenager and currently ship out most of my work fleet to the shop. Where they are a mixture of parts changers and mechanics (not my dollar).

I had a similar issue once with munched butterflies...

Lets hope for an easy electrical issue and not something mechanical or timing related. Any more info on the truck and it's history.
