96 disco I brake pedal/cruise switch

I just put all new hoses on my cruise control system, but I had to take the switch off the brake pedal to get the hose on. Now I can't get it back on, I am looking at the RAVE diagram but it doesn't show how to install, any help would be great, thanks.

I thought they just popped into a hole cut in a metal plate? The problem is contorting to see what you're doing way up there.

I can't quite seem to get it back in, at least not tightly.
Yeah, that's another problem. They don't like to fit tightly in those holes. Make sure the tabs on the switch aren't pressed in or broke off. A new switch is around $12-14 I think.

Well if you replace your lines be careful on this part, its a pain to be all up and twisted in such a small space.

Trust me I know. I'm all too well acquainted with that area. Replaced all my vac lines, new brake light switch, adjust brake light switch, new cruise switch, wiring through firewall, blah blah blah. I'm like a damn gymnist by now. :sombrero:

Well that didn't fix it! The cruise would work ok before I changed the lines, they were worn and cracked so If figured I get prventative on them, but no I have nada. The cruise used to kick off when I hit pot holes and such on the hwy. Well time to try something else.

I have had a terrible time with Disco 1 cruise control but now i is successfully fixed. I followed all the troubleshooting guides in Rave and checked and rechecked the wiring , vacuum hoses etc. That pedal switch is a pain and the tabs are really easy to break off. I did a little dremel work to make it fit like a tail lamp bulb by twisting bayonet fashion.

In the end there was only one thing left and that was the ECU. I tried other ECU's and it turned out I had 3 bad ones.

I had mine repaired by a company in Moscow Idaho for about $70 and now life is good. It works every time.

Do all the tests in Rave for the 96 Disco. It will probably be the ECU.
Mine would work one day and not the next. Then it stopped working completely.

Good luck, Steve

Sounds like mine exactly. Cruising down the hwy, hit a bump, it would kick out.
Little while later it would work. Now it stopped even that. New switch didn't do a thing. New lines, nothing. Next for me is the relay and then the ECU.

Well I am going to take a look at the piece that is under the jack, it is the only other part I had touched and I wonder if there is something wrong there, I know when I replaced the line it came off really hard and the new one went on kinda easy, so when the sun comes up again I'll take a look. Being a shady tree mechanic when its 9 degrees outside kinda sucks!

That would be the pump that creates the vacuum.
