97 F-350 CCLB build:

Welcome to the "They don't make trucks like they used to" thread.

I AGREE!

Today's trucks are MUCH BETTER!

I sold my 1995 F350 7.3 diesel Centurion Crew Cab Extended Cab truck I purchased/built new almost 2 years ago after 29 years of ownership. Paid $30500 for it new and sold it for $25000 29 years later. Not a bad deal! Reason for sale was I had only put 1500 miles on it in last 5 years of ownership, it was BIG and took up a lot of inside storage space. Was using my 2001 Express 8.1 Quigley 4WD ATF van all the time instead for the same tasks I previously use the F350. I also sold my 1995 F150 Centurion Crew Cab 4WD late last year. Only vintage truck left is the 1992 Dodge Ram 4WD Club Cab Cummins 5 speed that my daughter claims!

We already owned a 2008 Ram 1500 4WD crew cab Hemi for over 10 years. My wife's truck that she rarely if ever drives. Over a year ago I saw a 2006 Ram 1500 4WD Laramie Mega-Cab show up for sale locally on Marketplace. Loved the color, the look, the setup and therefore had to go look at the truck. Made a deal and purchased the 2 owner truck. It was setup exactly like I wanted.

Wow what a difference just 10 model years makes and it's a Ram on top of that! So much better, comfortable, capable, enjoyable and ever other adjective you can think of. Riding in some of my friends "new" trucks is even more enjoyable HOWEVER all I see is all those big screens, all those other electronics that are going to cause a big problem in the near future.

Yes, I know our two Third Gen Rams are 20 years old yet they drive good, run good, do not have cylinder deactivation and all the other electronic crap the new trucks enjoy. Given that neither are daily driver's I believe there is a sweet spot for trucks that will perform well and do most everything you need/want without buying new. I think that sweet spot is 2004-2015 for most all domestic trucks. Yes, each can have their issues however there are lot's of parts in your local Pull A Part if you are handy and the electronic EXPLOSION had not quite occurred yet in new trucks at that point.

For a good camping, overland and home use PU truck these year models of domestic PU's are hard to beat!IMG_3299.jpg
