97 LS, unidentified part

I was looking at a 1997 LS and on the right rear suspension area, when you look into the wheel well area, front side of the wheel, near and behind the top of the shock tower area, there is some kind of metal box looking thing that my 98 doesn't have. On my 98 I can see clear through to the ground, whereas on this 97, something is there. Anyone know what it is?

LSPV? That would be on the driver's side, so could be it depending on how you defined 'right side'.

Here are some pictures. I figured someone would just know this one, no pics needed. I pulled the carpet up too, above it, and there is an access panel. Any ideas? Again this is located near the passenger side rear wheel shock tower.

No, you can't access it from the foot area storage pods. It is a completely separate storage pod apparently. I didn't have time to open it up. I was sure this was going to be an easy question to answer but apparently not. We need an LS owner to chime in. It is a big empty space on my 98 though, and now I'm thinking about how nice it would be to add storage in that location. It is a big pod. My second photo is halfway under the second row passenger side seat (flipped up), cargo area carpet pulled back.

Yea that's where your stock stereo amplifier would be. I had the same question on my 98 until I opened the panel.

My 98 has nothing in that location and has the same stereo.

It's already been said, but that's the location for the stock amplifier if you have the Infinity sound system. There's an access panel under the passenger side 2nd row seat. It's a good place for a small second battery (or weld in a new battery box for a bigger one).
