Hello folks, New guy here. I've got a question that I need a ball park guess. I found a 98 1/2, 3/4 ton, 4x4, extra-cab cummins, long box pick-up. It has 190,000 miles, a new clutch and a shell on the back. It comes with 19.5's highway tread and two sets of snow tire on stock 16 inch wheels. It is nice and straight and most of the miles were highway and not pulling. Any idea what it would be worth? It is completely stock and 24 valve. It is a city slicker's rig. No ranch work. Thanks for any info/input. What should I offer?

Somewhere between $7,000 and $9,000 - depending on what the market is like for them up there. Down here it's still pretty hot, so they move quickly for top $$$. The last Ram I sold was for more than I paid for it, and all I did was scheduled maintenance and put miles on it.

Check if it is a "53" block, as they are prone to cracking and leaking coolant. If it is a 53, that could be good or bad for you. If it is leaking, stay away. If it is not, it is a good bargaining tool. Google "Cummins 53 block" and you will get far more info than you ever needed on how to tell what block number etc etc.

Either way, sounds pike a great truck!

I brought it home. Now what? It needs a little tlc on the inside but the outside is nice and straight. Do camper shells have a moisture problem? Condensation? Maybe it leaks. Hopefully it will pull my boat. approx. 7500#. Thanks for the input. I just retired a month ago. Everyday seems like Saturday. Good luck everyone........

Congrats. Let me be the first to ask...............

Pics?

I've never really had a problem with condensation in my toppers, probably because they aren't airtight and the inside temp goes along with the outside temp.
I can't really comment on whether or not it will do ok pulling the boat (I'd imagine it will) since mine is gas and I haven't pulled more than a 17' open bow Westwind.

Either way, good luck and enjoy the retirement.

If you have a problem moving 7500 with a 24 valve and 5 speed, there is something seriously wrong...

I wouldnt worry about towing. I towed a mini excavator with a tilt trailer. Thats probably the heavist ive towed and thats was atleast 15,000lbs. First thing i suggest is getting a fuel pressure gauge installed especially if you have the factory lift pump on the truck. If the lift pump fails it will take the injection pump with it. $1500 fix. I love my cummins but take care of it and do your maitenance.

as said before, monitor the fuel pressure. lift pumps aint cheap. i don't know if they salt teh roads in oregon or not, but the top pf the fenders and the bottom of the doors rust out. constant battle in wv. good luck

I didn't even realize the OP was from Oregon haha. I live in Oregon as well. They don't salt the roads here. Rust isn't much of a problem here unless you live near the coast. :smiley_drive:

Sorry for the late return. I've been gone. Pics, need to get pics. It's in great shape for it's age. I'll see what I can do for pics. On a side note. I don't know if this is common with Dodges. The driver seat has caved in! I put a whole sweatshirt in the hole and covered it with a cool cushion. It worked. I was looking at it the other day and found what looked like a miniature grill under the seat. I then removed all the bolts holding the seat in. I was told by an upholstery guy that it would take four hours to r&r the seat and quoted me $350.00 to repair my problem. After tilting the seat backwards, I found the four little bolts that hold the cushion to the seat bracket and figured out where the "mini grill" went and what it did. I looked online and couldn't find a cushion, let alone just the "grill". Being a cheap skate and a fisherman, I went into my shop and got my spinner making jig out. All I have is .037 wire so I figured it will have to do for now. After making 13 replacement wires and replacing the "grill" and reassembling the seat cushion and seat; I have my sweatshirt back and no more bowl in my seat. HA! saved $350.00. It took me a little over two hours to complete. Money I saved will be spent on sealant for the topper. It snowed and rained today, so I went out and checked on the topper. It leaks aroung the windows. The topper is a Leer and the windows bolt in, so I guess I'll just unbolt, clean, reassemble and caulk around the edges. Anybody have a better idea? I'm open for suggestions. Now I'll get busy on the pics tomorrow.

Every dodge truck seat I have seen was pretty well screwed on the driver's side. The only exception to that was the beater work truck I had in colorado. That truck didn't have many miles so its seat was still pretty decent.
