99 FG belt replacement

I'll be putting new belts on my FG in the next month or so. Took a quick look at them yesterday. Tension on the AC belt is held by the idler puller on the left side which is controlled by an adjusting bolt. Does anyone know if the big nut on the front of the pulley itself needs to be loosened before the tension adjusting bolt moves the assembly? Any other tricks I should know before doing the job?

A heads-up on belt length. The listed alternator/fan belt for my Fuso (2002 FG 649) a Gates 9465 (47.125 / 1196mm) worked 'new' but now that it has stretches in after use, I can not get enough adjustment to tighten it to the proper tension. I'm going to have to go with a belt 1 inch shorten in the outside measurement to get the adjustment in the proper range. YMMV

I'll have to check the size of my new belts. I have two belts for the alternator/fan on mine.

And the answer is: Yes, the 22mm nut on the AC idler pulley needs to be loosed to remove the AC belt. Mine was really really tight. Took some penetrant and a small sledge on the wrench to loosen it. Belts were in REALLY bad shape. Could they possible be original at 200K???

You'll need a 22mm box/open end wrench. I don't think a socket will fit in that location.
