Modern CAN Bus wired vehicles make simple wiring projects complicated or seemingly impossible. Simple things like turning auxiliary lights on and off with the factory headlight high beams. On older vehicles you could tap the factory headlight high beam wire into a relay for powering auxiliary lights. Simple. Easy.

Thankfully there is a workaround if you have factory fog lights! You see… factory fog lights are configured to “turn off” when the high beams are “turned on”. So essentially, by using the power feed to the fog lights to reverse trigger a relay you can turn auxiliary lights on and off with the factory high beam switch.

This wiring mythology allows the auxiliary lights to be turned on / off by the switch (like normal). Or controlled by the headlight high beam switch simply by turning on the factory fog lights with the auxiliary lights turned on.

Factor 55 builds top quality recovery products. My current favorite is the Flat Splicer! It is similar to the FlatLink which easily attaches to any winch ropes with a pin connection. However, the Factor 55 Flat Splicer is different as it eliminates the synthetic rope end loop. Instead, the winch rope is spliced directly onto the Factor 55 Flat Splicer thimble.

Why is it better? Less clunky. More compact. Better integration. Otherwise, it’s the same design and features of the older brother FlatLink.

The only complication is learning how to splice synthetic winch rope. However, gaining familiarity with synthetic winch rope splicing is valuable knowledge if your rope is cut or damaged on a trail. Similar splicing and tools will be utilized.
