Some of you may recall last year I had some starter motor issues and sought advice here... Well I had it repaired and all was well until a few months ago when the Rover wouldn't start.
I tried everything - checked the plugs, the battery, the carb, the fuel filter, you name it. It would crank but wouldn't catch.
Then I sadly got busy with a lot of work travel and other priorities and let my Rover sit and sit.
Finally towed it to my favorite guy in St. Pete at Action Imports. Within 5 minutes of getting it off the tow truck, he cleaned the carb and it literally cranked back to life. He kept it overnight and drove it again today and all is well.
When I picked it up today, I told him I couldn't believe he got it running again so easily and that I had tried everything within my range of skills. Told him "if I'm ever going to drive this thing through Africa, I've got to know how to start it." He laughed and said in his thick Austrian accent (he owns a Mog and 2 Pinz), "you'll never make it across Africa in that thing!"
Here's to a bit of humility today and a lesson learned that I need to brush up on my auto mechanics 101!
p.s. He charged me nothing for the repair as he said nothing was broken - just need to drive it more often!
