I'm sure it's been covered, but GVWR isn't what your car weighs. That's a projected maximum weight of a fully loaded vehicle, usually assuming 150 lbs per seat belt, and mfr's specified maximum cargo weights.
For example, my Montero's curb weight (unloaded) is about 4460 lbs. The GVWR is 5730 lbs.
Anyhow...I'm quite curious as to my actual rolling weight now on trips.
I did remove both the 2nd and 3rd row seats, to allow for more cargo capacity (and interior space for stuff), but then I've added some accessories as well.
I had a 6x12 enclosed U-Haul trailer full of wood scraps that I was hauling to the dump a couple weeks ago...that was amusing. I pulled on to the scales with my Montero + full trailer, no passengers...it came in at 10,150 lbs. (!!!)
When we scaled out to leave after emptying the trailer, the scales showed 6,670 lbs. (again...Montero, empty U-Haul trailer, and no passengers).
Turns out I had 1.74 tons of scrap wood in the U-Haul trailer. YIKES!!!
I would imagine my fully loaded weight with 1 passenger and a 4-day trip loadout and all the fuel topped off to be pretty close to ~5250 lbs.
First of all it's not a car it's a truck2nd it scaled out fully loaded at 10,160. That would be the load for cross country overland trip. Doing the f-250 spring mod/upgrade to the Ex for added stability but I have to say it did fine as is.
18 959 pounds which is 7041 pounds UNDER GVW.
Must see pics of something 7000 lbs UNDER GVW![]()
18 959 pounds which is 7041 pounds UNDER GVW. That's with 4 in the cab, 150 gallons of fresh water, 80 gallons of diesel, food and drinks for 4 days. Its like driving a car, it steers good, stops great, and even goes up hills at speed!
And....it's pretty sexy inside!
