A great big clunk. what is it?

yes i agree about rear suspension issues.

on these rigs the rear is actually more prone to wear as there are fewer attachment points.
the minute i get loose cash , im going after the bushing kit there in ADD. the bushings at the body attachment point for the trailing arms are first priority. Panhard bar, etc.

a lot of wiggle will go away when that is done.

when wiggle is gone it will not put as much pressure on front suspension attachment points.

I'm Getting Around To It
Sorry for drifting so off-topic, but the 'Complex' currently houses: 83 Power Ram 4x4 auto, 85 white SWB 5 spd, 86 blue SWB 5 spd, 87 turbo auto, 89 v6 auto, 90 v6 5 spd, 90 v6 auto and a 95 SR. Parked a block away is the 99 winter edition. I recently got rid of the 86 with a 2.4 with a four speed auto (swap from a 2.6 3 speed auto). Some of them actually run.

Ain't that the "fun" thing about chasing intermittent noises? They can be emanating from the exact opposite place you thought they'd be. You almost have to have a helper lay on the ground so you could drive over them (not recommended) to help spot it.

You can check the balljoint by prying between the control arm and the knuckle with an extra large prybar to see if it's got any movement in it.

Mine does similar, only in reverse. I've determined it to be either the trans mount on the cross member or control arm bushings. Always expected front (as I can see some play) but the rear trailings arm bushing idea is interesting given my "feel" is the bump is more in the middle of the vehicle. Since my montero was hit, hard...I haven't worried about it.

the lovely aspect to owning these rigs is they are all so old and worn out that parts replacement-any parts even if the new part dont cure the ailment, are beneficial to the rig. and the rig responds so nicely to tlc.

proof positive to solid engineering.

young man came by the shop today to fetch some axles i had lying around. he had massaged a gen 2.5, and she looked near new- probably give him a long life just cause of the p.m. he had done to her
