A little before and after WARN 8274 winch

A little before and after for someone who wanted their Warn 8274 restored and upgraded. I got a box of parts and turned it back into a winch!
I put on some USA made SK-78 Dyneema rope and upgraded the solenoids to a new contactor unit, but kept the traditional style control box cover so as not to change the vintage look. It also got a new, higher hp motor! Good for another 40 years. :)

Nicely done! As a kid in the early 80's, my father said "Warn 8274, the winch that judges all other winches" (while I couldn't afford an 8274back then, I'm grateful that my Superwinch S9000 has been rock solid for 35+ years)

Yeah the older Superwinches are one of the best ever made. I've repaired/restored a few and owned an X9 as my first winch in the 90's. They were made here in the USA back then. In the early 2000's Westin bought them out and moved everything to China. From the looks of the new Superwinches, I think the same factory makes the Harbor Freight junk too. What a shame. The 8274 is still built in Oregon though!

Here's a pic of an S9 I restored not long ago. It was a real mess when it came in.
