A little winch trivia!

Anyone know what this little guy is used for? (It's just sitting on my bumper for the pic). Yes, that is a webbing "winch line"...

Looks like it would make a great trailer mounted winch if DC powered though from Columbia's site it looks like most are AC power for hoist and pulling duties. Doesn't look like they are built for vehicle specific uses.

Looks like a hoist motor/winch to me... but I looked up Columbia and Winch on google and got their website.:sombrero:
 
I'll be installing these in our ambulances. This winch is one a few rated for hoisting people. It wll be bolted to the floor inside the ambulance and hooks to the stretcher. We have some 20ft heavy duty (and very expensive) aluminum ramps which can also act as bridges to a porch, etc. Back injuries are the most common career killer in EMS.
 
Is that a Dyneema (the material synthetic winch ropes are made out of) webbing strap that is used on that winch?
