A trip through Otero Mesa-Guadalupe Mnts, NM Jan 2011

[NM-Frontier]

Here is a few shots from our trip In January. The weather was perfect and the sights awesome. Otero Mesa is located in south central New Mexico it is part of the US Army McGregor range but is open to the public so long as there are no bombing ops going on. It is one of the regions last remaining desert grasslands. Enjoy the pictures!

As I drove back east at the end of our family expedition out there, I relaized that New Mexico would always be close to my mind.

That was the largest group of prong horn we saw. We had seen a few solo and a small group but that was the biggest, and they hung around for a bit before running off.

That part of New Mexico is like no other. Very different from the rest of the state.

Pic #3...Is that Wind Mountain?
Pic #4...Can you give me the location for those petroglyphs?

I live near El Paso, Tx and go out there a lot. Great roads for
dual sporting. I know there are petroglyphs on/around Alamo Mtn....but
don't know where these are at desert level. Did you see the old
butterfield station ruins while you were there?

I've had some of those pronghorns pace me...running along side me down
the side of the road while riding my motorcycle there. There are a lot of
them out there.

I bet that is a great place to explore on a bike. Yea that is Wind Mnt ,pic is taken from the north. The petroglyphs are on the north side of Alamo Mnt. PM sent about their local.
No we did not see the ruins, I didn't know they were there. Looks like I got to go back out!

Those prong horn are funny.

If you head north on foot from the parking area near the bottom of the mountain you will come to the stagecoach ruins. There is also a road that comes right up to it from the north, but it's unmarked and you just have to find it.

This was taken from up high, there's not much left but you and see the outline of the buildings.
