A weekend in the San Rafael Swell

Tour Guide
I mentioned in another thread that my church group would be having a father's and son's outing this past weekend. We live on the northern edge of the San Rafael Swell, so of course that is where we go. We like to go out on to Cedar Mountain at about the 6500 ft level, to a place called Staker Springs. It rained every day last week, but on Friday and Saturday, it decided to be dry. We had wonderful weather and a great time. I have included pictures of the Swell from the overlook on top of Cedar Mountain (7575 ft.)

The cute little guy in the ball cap is mine. You can see that he was a little tired. He told me he did not sleep on the way home even after seeing the picture.

I also have included a shot of the Tundra towing our accommodations for the weekend. Not really roughing it but comfortable.

Tour Guide
On Sunday we helped a friend out by towing his Polaris Ranger to Green River Utah. He came up from Moab, where he is on vacation, to meet us. We took the opportunity on the way home to see a little more of the Swell. We took the Smith Camp cut off from Hwy 6 to I70. It was beautiful as ever, but I only took one picture there. Then we took I70 over to the Buckhorn Draw road and headed north back home. I got a few pictures along I70 and in the Buckhorn wash. You can see in some of the pictures that it is dark and stormy in the background. The rain fell hard up there and made the road as slick as snot.

I was not planning on it, but I was able to spend most of the weekend enjoying the Swell. How great is that?

Awesome scenery! Feel free to post up a few more pictures.

How'd the family dig the new Tundra?

I can't

I apologize, I did not take any more pictures. We were just having a nice time, and I only snapped a few.:(

Haggis,
We liked our Ford Expedition, but is just felt so heavy. The Tundra handles the high speed dirt roads so much better. We are loving the truck. We were in it for more than 4 hours without any complaints. Yesterday my wife drove north through the Swell. When the back end started fish tailing in the mud she quickly said, "Order your new tires!"

Thanks AZ and UT!

My wife and I had the pleasure to visit northern AZ and southern UT. from 4-3 to 4-12. The scenery was spellbinding! Everything looks pretty close on the map,but when you start exploring it takes awhile. Miles and miles of almost non-existent traffic, clean air and beautiful surroundings.

Diesel was $0.30/gal cheaper than Ca. Utah should be commended on their clean, inexpensive campgrounds complete w/free hot showers usually.

Three nights were spent in BLM land complete with the usual fine sunrises and sunsets. Sunshine was abundant, but the Grand Canyon dipped to 19*. Last night was spent at my father in laws place on six acres west of Cedar City off 56. Woke up to snow everywhere. Only bummer of the whole trip was the boring drive on I-15 to San Diego.

Was down in the Swell this weekend floating the river. The Swell is always great place to visit, explore, etc.

Glad you had a great time! Thanks for the pics!
