Amazing trip! This is the reason I want to get back into a light 4x4. Our daughter is 15 months now, and I am itching to get her up into the mountains. Lovely photography, and great write-up!

We just got rid of our FJ60 and I have been constantly trying to figure out what would be the best vehicle to suit our needs. Going with a smaller rig like this is a revelation offroad in technical situations. I still need to tweak it, going to do an OME heavy lift and a Baja utility rack on it. I think it will be pretty dialed for our uses then. Managed to squeeze all of our food, recovery gear, tools, clothing, and camping gear behind the upright back seats for this trip. Once I have a good rack and can utilize it for some extra storage it should be pretty simple to make it work. Get her up in the mountains! We are starting a bit young but have been taking it bit by bit to see how the little guy does. Definately adds a whole new element to the camping experiencing having his needs to look after. Overall though for a first attempt, it went really well, even with the tough weather.

Very nice. Cute kid!! The San Juans are wonderful even when wet. The rain is much needed.
Thanks! And agreed about the rain. I actually love that kind of weather, had the cold weather clothing on and made for some great, dramatic photo opps.

Thanks! I lived there in the mid '90's. Still consider it some of the best skiing in the US. Biking too for that matter. Don't think I am going to bring my bike this time though, I think my receiver rack would get mangled on Pearl Pass.
