Action packer Baja Bin

I don't have one and I don't know anyone that does...
but I think it is very cool that we now live in an age where someone can come up with an idea, make it, put up a website that can reach billions of people and then find the very few who would buy something....a hundred years ago it was much much harder.

I get the idea behind the product and I wish them well even if it is something I would not be able to justify vs using SteelCore straps or some other security measure.

4 bins fit perfectly under the cargo rack in the back of my yj. I love the look of those, but can't reconsile the price:( I'd by one for $79

Interesting. Kinda crazy, but interesting. I use Action Packers because they're plastic and cheap.

When I want a more secure, lockable storage box, I use one of my all-aluminum Zarges boxes.

I can't really see the logic in doing that much work to make an Action Packer into something it'll never be.

Question for you guys. Price seems to be a consern. Just a quick 5 minute search found me this:

Zarges case, $252

This case is a VERY rough compairison in size to this:

8 Gallon Action Packer $24

Then you buy this:

Action Packer Baja Bin for $114

So, zarges for $252, or action packer and "baja" kit for $138.

Yes, there are differences between the two products, but when it comes down to it, they are both lockable storage. And the Baja bin has tie down points, and won't dent as easy.

Best bang for the buck seems to be the action packer w/baja attachment. Or am I missing something?

P.S. I am sorry for the bad spelling, someone stole my dictionary from my desk at work. :Wow1:

I've bought Zarges boxes or the equivalent in Germany at places like Bauhaus (the equivalent of Home Depot) for a LOT less than $252. They don't dent very easily, if you've ever spent time with one. They're much stonger than Action Packers, cut and critter-proof, and easier to pack.

But don't get me wrong... I think these Baja Bins are cool. Just think what the guy could do if he wanted to make an all-aluminum box.

for the amount of design and production and cost for something like this you would think the company would have just built a container exactly like the action packer but instead out of aluminium instead of building a wrap around cage for it. I would buy that.

Good points I guess. I still think folks are buying some things because they are the "cool" product to have. As for the cases beiing "cut and critter proof" I have to disagree. I have seen the cases, and they can be broken into just like any other case, and they are not bear proof. Don't get me wrong, I think they are very funtional, way easy to pack, and look killer. I just choose to spend my $$ on other things, and left my "storage containers" to simple, functional and inexpensive.

And yes, they could have made another product like a Zarges, or action packer or hardig case or, or, or, but there are so many choices out there for cases why add one more.

It actually seems smart to design something to make a product that a lot of off-roaders already use, better. I have seen so many action packers out on the trail, I think they did the right thing. If I had an action packer I would be getting one of these in a heart beat. But, alas I bought cases that were cheaper :sombrero:

I don't recall having an action packer ever pop open on the road. If necessary, just add a bungee cord around it.

Seems like a well designed hold down bracket, sure its lockable, but I don't think that's the primary intended function, just a secondary benefit.

I could see incorporating a couple into a roofrack or onto the top of a storage drawer (with quick releases for the brackets)
