Adding accessories to lumber rack.

My truck has a Kargo Master Pro II lumber rack.

I am looking to add an awning to it and maybe some lights. I also have a number of Yakima accessories I would like to put onto this rack. Anyone know of a bracket that makes mounting things to this rack easier? Anyone have pics of this style rack outfitted for camping?520128

I don't remember the manufacturer (there are probably several), but you can find light mounts that are designed to mount onto round light bars, roll cages, and exoskeletons. They come in multiple sizes for various standard tubing diameters and usually have an adjustable plate to actually bolt the accessory to. Probably ideal for what you want to do.

Another option, depending on the tubing diameters of your rack, might be the Yakima clamps designed to mount odd accessories to their crossbars. I think they call them WrapArounds (or some other goofy Yak name), and you can bolt them on with or without key locks. From memory, the Yak bars are about 1.19" OD, but don't trust my memory.

You can also do some simple fab work without welding, by using combinations of u-bolts (preferably stainless steel) and/or conduit clamps from the electrical section at Home Depot, to bolt things onto your rack without drilling the rack. I have done this for rack baskets, water tanks, awnings, etc.

I have purchased these mounts many times with excellent results. Have put them on my trucks and also my tractors as work with zero issues. They come in multiple sizes, measure the bar and get the appropriate mount. Have used them to mount lights and lightbars but not sure how well they would work with awnings. I bet there are plenty of awning bracket options out there to work on the round bars.

I don’t have a similar rack but I’ve had good luck bolting things to larger bars with these:

I love the kargo master rack with a topper, I’m thinking of going that route. When looking at it, I would be tempted to get some bar stock and weld a few bars to clam yakama accessories to. You get get clamp mounts on eBay to mount your lights etc. nice looking set up!

I keep thinking about a canopy and that rack as well. I'm wondering if you'd be able to haul an aluminum fishing boat up there.....

Thanks for the compliment. Once I have the outside setup I will do a write up of my truck. I have a pretty cool setup in the back.

Here is what I have found.

Yakima has these to attach to any bar.

Another slick set up but expensive are these.

When I choose an awning I will work with what I have and likely get someone who knows how to weld to add cross sections to my rack in the right place to mount the rack in the right place. For now I will probably pick up some of the clamps from Amazon Rippin Av suggested. When I get some welding done for awning placement i will also likely add somewhat to mount cross sections to the other side of the rack for bike or ladder storage. I am often towing a sailboat usually bigger than the one shown and having a 2-3 step ladder easily accessible comes in handy. Anyone got photos of a nicely laid-out side accessorized truck rack?

Thank you for the info. Hmmm.....
Another thing to consider is a shell on its own with an upgraded reinforcement is supposed to hold 500 lbs. I don't think I'd want to get close to that if I was off roading but if you are going to put a few hundred lbs up there, something to consider.

Good idea. Few options to think about.

I used to carry a 12-foot aluminum jon boat on my Yakima crossbars mounted directly to my SnugTop fiberglass shell. No problems.
