Ok similar concept to the Bougie Stylet we I used in my last code. Its a long plastic stylet that you insert first then pass the tube over the top of it.

Glad you are taking this serious and seeking to learn and not just get through it.
Being in a captain position now I have the luxury to stand back and watch the big picture at incidents. I have noticed a real decline in care in the last few years because fireman go through PM school for the raise they will get as a FF/PM. There are fewer and fewer medics who can really read the nuances of a EKG anymore and it's amazing how bad their IV skills are, I have jumped in on several occasions to start an IV on critical patients after a medic has thrown his hands up. Basics are being overlooked, skills are in decline and attitudes are poor, some medics simply load the patient and transport figuring that pt. will get what they need in the ER.

This is not the majority thank goodness and I take great pride in the medics skills who work for me and I let them know that daily. IMO a good attitude is the most important tool in the bag of a paramedic, if you have a good attitude you will take pride in your job and it will reflect in all aspects.

Kepp up the good work.

Its nice to see someone learning in their ride time. In Mass its a 100 hrs and a 100 points and the pt is looked at as just points. So a lot of medic students aren't in the learning mentality.:coffee:

The clinical hours are dragging by in the ER. I dont know how people work 12 hour shifts in a hospital full time. It takes a special kind of person I guess. I am going crazy in there. I still have 164 hours to go in the hospital.

Been a while since I posted. Very busy with work, school, kids (football, football and more football) and 7.5 mo pregnant wife.

Had my first level 1 trauma. Roll over, sort of. Car on its side really. Still a level 1 by mech. Dropped my first 14g. Holly leather punch! Good thing the guy had ropes for viens and you guessed it.... drunk. Missed the first 14g cause I think I went right through the other side. Adjusted and got the second no problem. With the 14g in, no external bleeding and no signs of internal bleeding, I went with a 16g in the back of the rescue. Hit it no prob.

Made my report to the trauma team with out a hitch. Good times!

First day of Hell Week. We were all a lil rusty with our static and dynamic cardiology, We come from the field and had to re-adjust to NRT style testing. But by after lunch we were back in our grove. We also started on a oral based scenarios and treatment plans. We can use a template now which helps a lot

Tomorrow we start on trauma assessments, Good times.

Half way through NRT prep "Hell Week". Man do you need to know a lot of stuff. I couldnt imagine walking in to test day cold, with no prep. Miss verbalizing one little, "I'd clear the patient. or I'd attach my BVM to 15 L 02" and your done.

Good luck. Thats what I hate about these verbalization scenarios. Its nothing like being on a scene.
