Background: As a landscape photographer I spend most of the year on the road, & was previously photographing based out of my 94 Wrangler. After awhile it was tough setting up a tent night after night in rough weather with very little storage room. My original plan was to have a sportsmobile built as a onsite studio. After planning one out, the price tag was getting a little crazy. I had always loved the AEV Jeeps and was thinking of getting one for a second support vehicle when I saw that Dave from AEV had a FWC built for Overland Expo 2010.
Original Inspiration
After grilling all the guys at AEV and FWC on the details we decided to go ahead and get both made. Luck came along and I found a 2002 AEV Brute with only 20k miles.(Thanks Kraig)
FWC
Siding: The first thing that all the guys at AEV said to do was definitely get the fiberglass siding. I agreed..the traditional siding just looks like it belongs in the 80s.
Paint: The paint became a big challenge..I wanted it to be painted to match the brute and have a consistent look. With it all red the concern became that in the summer the red color would make it hotter inside. Credit goes to Tom for suggesting we paint keep the top white to reflect heat. It'll be painted red till the natural break in the roof so that from standing level it'll appear all red.
Options: We decided to add an additional battery and solar panel(with room for the possibility of a 2nd in the future if needs require it) to charge batteries. Other additions include Engel fridge, furnace, fan-tastic fan, led lighting, rear wall steps, jack brackets, screen door.
fiberglass siding painted ready for interior work
I'm also having a swing away bumper made once I pick up the FWC to carry the 35 inch spare tire and jerry cans.
After many months of planning & building it looks like my FWC is almost ready. I'll post more photos once we take delivery. I wanted to thank Tom and Stan at FWC for helping me with all my crazy requests. Also a shout out to all the guys at AEV for all their help & for making a killer product.
