ya surprisingly only like 5 people have ordered campers with the fiberglass siding. It looks so much better
I think the composite siding is heavier than the traditional aluminum, but on a camper the size of the Brute model, it's probably not much of an increase.
Now it's time for a group like Overland Journal to compare the Brute/FWC with the AT Habitat!
An alternative approach would be to build the Brute with a flatbed in place of the pickup bed. FWC could then build a camper that's a little wider and longer.
How much are they charging for a premium of the composite versus traditional siding? Chip mentions the weight differences, any idea how much more this adds to your setup?
$400 for the fiberglass siding over the aluminum.
Stan says not much of a weight difference.
There is no mention of the fiberglass option on the FWC website, here and on WTW are the only places it is mentioned. Maybe the reason not many are going with it.
I can think of a couple reasons to go with aluminum over glass. Personally I will be going with the "old school" aluminum siding, even though I like the looks of the new glass.
Nathanael, I know you have been doing a ton of research on this stuff. I have been picking through your thread. I am kind of on the same page with you being picky and starting with close to a shell as well. Anyway, what is your reasoning for going with the aluminum siding? Is it purely cost? Just trying to figure out what advantages there are either way other than cosmetic.
