That is good to hear on the increased production! Maybe we will get some other options....

While I am not a HUGE fan of the Dana 60 used in the J8 since it has c-clip axles, the J8 rear end is FACTORY rated to carry over a ton of payload in the severe military application. The rear end is 35 spline and has HUGE brakes!

I would have liked to see a full float rear axle in the J8 also. I think the D60 they used was out of something like the SRT10 program?

Dynatrac has a very nice and very expensive floater conversion for the JK/J8 that retains the ABS stuff.....

Lets hope they can ramp up some, might make the dealers more willing to negotiate if nothing else.

AEV offers the Dynatrac 60 upgrade (and the Dynatrac D44 upgrade for the front too.) At the time mine was there it was not the full float though. Funny thing though, with the 60 the full float option becomes less attractive for the $'s, since the likelyhood of breaking a shaft is lower. For something like $5k (each) I passed and decided to see how it went with the oem D44's. I kinda expected to be replacing the front D44 with a stronger tubed Dynatrac version, but so far so good.

A woman merged into my Jeep a couple of weeks ago and bent the passenger side rear axle flange. Tore up her car on my rear tire, but somehow managed to miss everything but the tire. I just got back from a shop that put my Jeep on a lift for the insurance adjuster. I could see the "wiggle" in the rear veiw mirror and feel it on the road, but it was a lot worse than I thought. The contact wasn't violent, just a push, but it was too much for the flange.

I always wondered why Jeep didn't add in the J8 front housing to the Rubicon? It seems like it would be a simple low cost upgrade that would probably cost Jeep like $5 or something.....

Just the housing with the thicker front tubes....not the bigger brakes or 5 on 5.5 stuff........but that would be even better if you ask me.....

Interestingly, I spoke with a dealer yesterday who was just back from an AEV/Jeep tour. He told me that the Jeep personnel they met with are trying to go to three shifts at two plants to increase JK/JKU output.

He also told me that the Jeep guys told them that the holdup in increasing JK/JKU prodction was third party suppliers, who are working to increase their capacities.

Since the JK has been in production there has always been one shift that has been dedicated to maintaining the line (cleaning and maintaining the quipment, etc...). I don't see how they can add another production shift at this time. They are working on plant expansion, but that is going to take some time, and probably won't be used until the next variation of the Wrangler in a few years.
