African Conservation Fund Safari Slide Show - Denver area - June 12, 07

I'm going to be in Denver for business the week of June 10-14, and want to plan a slide presentation on our work and the launch of our self-drive adventure safaris (as well as fully escorted high-end safaris).

Tuesday, June 12 - 7:30 pm (tentative time - place TBD)

Graham's helping to round up some folks with Solihull - and we're looking for a venue for the slide presentation. I will come with my LCD projector but we'd need a screen, and a place for up to 30-40 folks maybe (probably not that many, but nice to have the room).

A bonus would be if the venue is near to (or serves) good chow and libation.

Any ideas for locations?

And who can come? It would be great to meet you all!

Just a regular slide screen, nothing huge - I don't know the dimensions of a standard presentation screen. Even a nice white wall will do. Heck, at the Expedition Trophy last year we did a show on a white sheet hanging off the side of a Tacoma . . .

I have a Panoview Gray Wolf II 92" screen that I could take with me, I can not commit at this time as I am trying to be at the Baja 500 June 1-3 and then I am schedule to go back to Ensenada Baja norte on the 22-24. and somewhere in between dates i have to go to Denver and visit my brother, so I may be able to get away on the 12th.

Well I'll see in Baja if you're going!

Thanks for the offer - if you can come to Denver, just bring yourself - I'm sure we'll scare up a screen there and you don't have to car around a 92" screen!

As an alumnus at CSM, I'm sure Graham may have a few old professor contacts that may be interested in hosting it? (I've done that a few times). Problem is the hopping town of Golden is a touch of a walk and plus they're regressing the downtown look by a good 15 years with a strange loft flat craze.

We have an office in the Tech Center, so if you really need I could start making some calls to see if there are any employees interested there.

Good point Scott, I hadn't thought of that. Of course Roseann's 'good grub' criteria might need revising. . . . I can make some calls and see where I can get.

cheers

Contact Neptune Mountaineering in Boulder. They host presentations like this all the time. I saw one there for canoyeering that was simply amazing.

I'm glad to hear you're coming to my neck of the woods. It sounds very interesting - I'll mark it on my calendar.

Is there any focus on anthropology or archaeology on your safaris? If so, I could contact the Anthro department at some of the universities around here to see if they'd be interested in hosting your presentation.

Great! We're still looking for a venue in the area . . . I don't know if Anthropology types would be interested. The safaris will be high adventure, self-drive and hosted by Maasai communities, with Maasai guides. This is a very traditional area, still deep in Maasailand. Our high-end escorted safaris will be more the lecture-academic type, but they will run $8000 or more per person - where the self-drives are going to price around $4000 or less.

I'll post more soon when I know where we'll be. Would like to see if any of the 4x4 clubs is interested in hosting us.

Sounds really cool! I'd like to come, I'm sure Katie would as well.

This might be a long shot since I'm not a member, but Rising Sun 4x4 (Dave and Perry are members) occasionally uses a conference room at Stevinson Toyota West, in Golden...maybe that would be a possibility as well.

Thanks, Sean - great idea. Our self-drive safaris will be with really nice HiLuxes (Tacomas) double-cabs with shells and rooftop tents, fridges, the works - plus an accompanying Toyota Troopie for game drives after we're in an area for camping.

I've been too swamped to focus on finding a venue and will start calling 'round next week Monday if nothing else turns up!
