Alaskan Dinette Bed Frustration

try putting the last one against the wall on it's side
Sorry jadmt, I missed your suggestion when I posted mine. :)
I have, but it still leaves that gap you see in the middle because those base cushions are located in place by the wood blocks attached to their backs. I've tried moving them to open up that gap (in hopes of fitting that last cushion in), and they wobble really annoyingly if they're pushed back flush against the camper wall. Isn't this fun?
Sorry Nailhead, I missed your response to jadmt. :)
Is one of the cushions supposed to be placed on edge (instead of flat) at the head of the bed?

Although it would cut in to leg room, it would allow one to easily sit up in bed and read, and it might be the way it was designed.
Considering the two posts I missed, I must have been quite tired when I made my post. Oh well, at least it was polite and intended to be helpful!
I tried this, but two factors queered it: 1. It required repositioning a base cushion, which didn't work because of the wood blocks previously discussed. 2. It still left a 4-5" gap in the bed, which didn't seem right.
Thanks for your patience!

I am curious what the solution will be.

I wish I could offer some insight, I have a 2000 CO Ak and Brian has always been there to answer all my questions no matter how silly , so I'm sure he'd be happy to shine a light on things. I'm in suspense now!

I have had 3 Alaskans. The cushions should lay flat across the bench. As previously suggested the cushions have probably been modified. I will try and find the dimensions for the original cushions. Check the Alaskan Camper Lovers facebook site also.

I now have the new style benches, which are very comfortable to sit on, but not as good for sleeping and they do not allow as good of access for storage. I prefer the old style benches.

They are not installed. They hang from the top of the windshield frame. Look close and you will see the mounting holes.

I talked to Brian about this and some other issues, and he said those cushions aren't stock. Another item added to the punch list. Super helpful guy, even with those who aren't technically his customers.

Yeah, I just barely remember Grandma & Grandpa's setting up the same way. That's why this situation flummoxed me like it did. Thank you for the FB group recommendation-- I don't go there anymore, though. Too bad so much of the world is tied up in it.

Sweet truck! Where are the windshield wipers?

Thank you! The wipers were originally vacuum-powered, and I've been planning on installing a YJ 12V wiper system. Until then, it's RainX, which actually works pretty well.

Brian is a Fantastic guy. Do you still need cushion measurements? I have a 10ft 1968 Alaskan NCO and my dad has a 1962 8ft. I could measure either of them if you like. The 10ft camper has just a bit wider bed/dinet than the 8ft, but the cushions should be the same width from wall to wall.

Did you try spinning the cushions 90 degrees ....... and there should be a solid floor on the frames.

That would be great if you could measure the cushion dimensions in the 8'.

I've tried every sensible combination & permutation I could think of, apart from setting them on edge.

Cannot help with the bed, but that is an a awesome rig!!

Thank you-- I wish it went as well as it looks, I could do some camping until the IH is running.
