ALERT - Harry Reid to Force Vote On Omnibus Land Grab This Weekend

Harry Reid to Force Vote On Omnibus Land Grab This Weekend

The Omnibus Federal Land Grab Bill Number is now S. 22

Urgent Action Required

You must call your Senators immediately. They must be deluged with calls now at (202) 224-3121.

If you live in California Senator Feinstein could be swayed in our favor. She needs to hear from You.

You should also call your Congressman. The bill will have to go back through the House if it passes the Senate.

All Senators may be called at (202) 224-3121. All Congressmen may be called at (202) 225-3121. They must know in no uncertain terms that rural America opposes this massive Wilderness and land grab bill.

You must let your Senators and Congressman know you will hold them responsible for their vote on S. 22. This is the largest land grab in 20 years. They must know they will be held accountable.

Now is not the time to be locking up our resources when we need them to help rebuild our economy.

I'm as concerned as most of my fellow Expedition members are over restrictions on land usage that are not well thought out or are wholesale applications. But this post just seems like cut and paste propaganda.

How about some well reasoned argument for and against, instead of "You must call your Senators immediately. They must be deluged with calls now at ........"?

Or a straightforward post that states you’re concerned about the bill S.22 that is coming up for a vote etc.

:iagree: with Martyn,
Let's have some specifics and an intelligent discourse...

I've been following this bill, and I'm all for it. It's simply an attempt to forestall a panicky push to open more and more public land (that's public land, not "government" land) to resource extraction in the name of a chimerical "energy independence" the U.S. has no hope of achieving with our current consumption.

Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, and Trout Unlimited are just two of the sportsmen's organizations supporting the bill.

I saw last night on The Rachel Maddow Show that the bill had already passed on Sunday. They nicknamed it the "Tomnibus Bill" after a Senator from Oklahoma named Tom aka Dr. No, who always votes no, on nearly everything.

I know even the conservative Utah senators are supporting it which is quite surprising, I believe it's a relatively small grab, 2.5 million acres but over several states...

Well it looks like I have at least annoyed the admins & sponsors with this post & my thread "A new president now what".

So this will be my last post on Expo, good luck & see you on the trails.

Information on the bill, S. 22, can be found at http://thomas.loc.gov

AP story after passing vote last Sunday. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/01/11/senate-meets-rare-sunday-session-wilderness-preservation/

Just realize that this forum is quite a bit different than many other "Off Road" forums, as many of us have quite extensive educational and professional backgrounds in environmental science and conservation, as well as years and years of working for many organizations, motorized and otherwise, so that we usually ask, in promoting discourse, to have many of this type of "land grab" post backed up with facts; not merely a knee jerk reaction of ....we can't ride our atvs there any more....

No one personally attacked you...just wanted both sides of the "why" this bill was put in. There are, obviously, other forums where the participants are more likely to agree, without question, with your take on the matter. If that is the response you desire, I agree...post there.

Sorry but I took it as being flamed & not looking for others to agree with my views without question.

I also realize Expo is very unique in its viewpoints & has lots of good info. that I enjoy but time for me to move on.

Thanks

No Brian it's not that, we just need some more detail and I think a lot of us would support it. I hadn't heard too much opposition to this one...

I understand but sometimes this stuff comes at us so fast & with such short notice It makes it difficult to come to a informed & rational opinion in a timely manner.

I'm confused. Are you saying that because you didn't know anything about the proposed Bill, you were willing to influence a political decision based on a mass e mail or posting, and expected others to do the same?

"So this will be my last post on Expo, good luck & see you on the trails."

I thought we already discussed the "goodbye cruel world" posts on this forum.

So; does anyone know any specifics about what effect this Omnibus bill might have on our ability to travel existing road systems in the USA?
