:sombrero: No need to be sorry-

I call JK's cars all the time, the majority of them around here are blinged out on big chrome wheels, and this is Utah. I also call them gutless wonders, want to compare dyno graphs? The only "great" thing about the JK is their suspension design, sorry.

The cowboys felt the same way about the "horseless Carriage"-

There's not much mine won't do and pull a trailer too-

Most cars can tow a 4x8 trailer....I pull a 16 foot flatbed, ha ha! Anyway, have a fun 4th, I need to get things ready for camping.

:sombrero: Yea, meto, the rangers at Sierraville tell me that the Jackson Meadow Reservoir road is only open to a certain point, but I'll go see-

This is how it was 3 weeks ago and you couldn't "legally" try the snow--Rangers were on snowmobiles !!

I'll try next week

Jeep is corporation and needs money like everyone else. If they are not selling GCs because the ride is to rough and built handle being off road then they will change to support the market. They don't really care about the 2% of GCs that actually have touched dirt, let alone have been put in 4low. Also they do have the Overland and that is for us while the street lovers can have the lowered/lighter/faster/stronger SRT8, that is what it was built for, not to run the Baja 1000. As for the degradation of Jeep, keep in mind the Wrangler and the Rubicon trim. They sell the hell out of those. So I would love to see the WK and ALL Jeeps remain true to the roots of capability, but I do understand the direction they are taking to stay in business.
when i say jeep is degrading, its more in the sense of it idk i guess seeming more like mercedes benz or land rover. not knocking on them but its just luxary junk with a bunch of flashy computer stuff, yea a jk is still capable but it lacks a huge sense of simplicity that made almost everyone who loves jeeps fall for them in the first place. from a mechanical stand point id much rather tear into my 99 cherokee than my dads jk or stepmoms compass, they are a nightmare. i understand if the market calls for it, go for it, i would hate to see the jeep brand become extinct in the future, but they should realize that they arent catering to the hard core jeep enthusiasts like they should, people have to pay thousands of dollars to get their jeeps how they should have come from the factory, and then start upgrading the major offroad capabilities, i just dont find that right. again, im not saying they arent capable cause i can attest personally they are very capable in stock form, i just feel like i shouldnt have to buy a few computer systems to shut off half the crap that isnt needed and to tune that drive by wire bull ********. which i do hate with a passion, the throttle response is horrendous...bring back the 4.0, throw in a diesel to the line up, or even hemi wranglers, beef up the frame, get rid of the computer junk, stronger axles, and offer that as a jeep enthusiast platform, they can just call it a wrangler classic or something. i feel like i could go on and on about this, like ive said before, i feel like i could sit in a room a design a wrangler that would gain huge sales figures, one that would compete with the "washed down" jeeps they are selling now.

The "Hemi" has had the fuel saving technology for awhile. And Jeep forgot who they were a long time ago, any "Jeep" without solid axles and an Inline-6 is just another car.
i was unaware of the fuel saving stuff, im not a mopar guy by nature, just a jeep person and ive never really been a huge fan of the hemi, its a great motor but its just not my cup of tea, i grew up around suburbans and jeeps so i prefer the old amc v8's bbc, sbc and ls (not so much vortec...) although i am glad my cherokee has solid axles and the 4.0 after that last statement. even though its frameless :coffee:

Thank the government for all of the electronics and no more 4.0. Emissions and mpgs rule what we are allowed to buy, not what we want. Diesels are great but again, Jeep dropped them due to failing emissions standards. Look at all the emissions crap on a one ton diesel truck. The way of simple vehicles is gone. Even low end cars have a ton of electronics and gadgets.

The 5.7 hemi can be tuned for performance better than the 6.1. I think it has to do with the injection setup, what I hear from a Jeep tech. The new 6.4 will have the new stuff and is supposed to be awesome.

when i say computers i mean the aesthetic ones, like tire pressure sensors, and in the GC all the crap for off roading like the setting where it controls the brakes when descending down a steep hill offroad. its unnecessary. as far as emissions standards go, its to my understanding that all companies have a MPG limit they have to reach, basically, all the top MPG their vehicles make are added up and it has to total a certain number. so if it was set at 40 basically, they would need two cars that add up to 40, one could get 10 while the other would have to pick up that extra 30. so if they have cars like the compass getting decent mpgs then i feel like they could have one or two cars that arent as strict. hell the corvettes now get high 20mpg i know jeep can produce 6cyl and 4cyl motors that get damn good mpg..computers controlling emissions is "okay" in my mind. my area of main focus when it came to working on race cars has always been the motor. i know they can do alot internally to get better mpg out of a 4.0 and i will be attempting to do so when i have the time with my xj.

Yes they do have a total average of sales mpg requirement. It is not just mpgs, it is emissions as well! NOx, CO2 and CO are huge components. Look at some cars from the 90s, a Saturn will get 40 mpg! Why can't they still do that, because there are plenty of "bad gasses" coming out of the tailpipe.

i guess that is true, and in reality i really dont have to worry about it. i dont ever really plan on buying a brand new off the lot vehicle... its just disappointing really.

I like my wife's "car". It tows great, does good in deep snow, does good on the trail and still manages 18-22mpg on the highway with the Hemi. Even better she loves it and I was able to talk her out of a Volvo. The new GC and JK are as good as the "real" Jeeps if not better due to the increased comfort. The GC my not be suited for extreme rock crawing but they are still very capable and still represent Jeep's heritage.

I feel its good to know that if I ever want to get back into auto-x/timed event auto racing and keep a Jeep they have a vehicle that is ready to do it.

Want to know how I really feel? What is Jeep thinking? Whats next, an electric Jeep? Jeep can't deliver a diesel or Hemi Wrangler to the US but can put together a circuit ready Grand Cherokee.
You can't auto X a SUV

They are indeed nice "cars". And the only "somewhat real Jeep" that they still sell is the JK, anything else you are better off with a Subaru. I know, I'm a bit biased.

im not saying all jeeps should be rock crawlers and be hard core offroaders, they can retain comfort on the interior, i much approve of comfort especially in an overlanding situation, but as so, in overlanding, i dont want my jeep jeep having issues with electrical junk down the road and i cant do anything about it because idk what half the crap does. from a mechanical standpoint i find them to be WAY more mercedes benz than Jeep...it may be a good car, but for getting out in the back country and getting away from people, id much rather take a more simplistic design and something im not worried about breaking cause i just spent 50 grand on it....

I can understand being leary of the electronics in new stuff but I'm not worried about actually having problems and if I did I feel confident about taking care of it. I have a 2011 Dodge Cummins that will be my main expo vehicle but the Jeep may see some upgrades such as a small lift (when available) along with sliders and bigger tires at the least. I may or may not do a build thread here because I'm tired of reading all of the negative comments on the new Jeeps (not insinuating anyone in particular), not just here but other forums as well. I don't want to deal with it if I don't have to. I have a thread on my Dodge in the full size section and every one over there doesn't care what you drive and offer advice and compliments no matter their vehicle preference. Any way here are some pics of my XJ I wish I still had.

very nice XJ, i think with jeep people, the jeep brand is in our blood, and the changes they have made is like pumping the wrong blood type into your veins. it just kills it for me, although, if you own one i wouldnt think about talking trash to you about why you bought a newer jeep, i still love seeing what people build up with the newer stuff and its great to learn about them, its just not for me personally. with the newer models i guess its a love hate situation.
