AluCab Questions

Hey folks,

So, I got the alucab all loaded up and mounted on my G Wagon. The awning was already on the tent so wow... that was a real son of a gun to get bolted down. . . Anybody tried different mounting brackets/system?

Next, because of the awning the tent has to be slightly off center, and this makes it so the ladder can't hook into the side bracket. Should I make an offset bracket to push it to the side? Or should I just get a whole new ladder? Any ladder recommendations? Seems that this one is a little short anyway. Basically vertical next to my G.

Finally, The wire hook up for the back. Does anyone know which plug that is on the back of the AluCab Tent?

I didn't like the ladder on my Eezi-Awn Blade either. I bought the ladder in the link below and it has been great. Not sure how the Alu-cab ladder attaches to your tent but I just use a velcro strap to attach the new ladder to my tent when I'm in it. Quick and easy.

Not sure what wally meant about a velcro strap. I took the Alu-Cab "hook" off the alu-cab ladder and bolted it to the one in the link. Goes on like the stock one, but easier to store and a better ladder in my opinion

That connector is an SB50 Anderson plug. It comes from the factory with a 12V (cig lighter) on one end and the anderson plug on the other. Since I have an Anderson on the back of my cruiser, I made a second cable to connect the two

That connector is an SB50 Anderson plug. It comes from the factory with a 12V (cig lighter) on one end and the anderson plug on the other. Since I have an Anderson on the back of my cruiser, I made a second cable to connect the two

The way the original ladder attaches to the tent on the Blade is different than other designs. They basically have flat stock bolted to the top of the ladder that slips into a slit on the tent. I really couldn't take the flat stock off the original ladder and adapt it to the new collapsible ladder because the material on the new ladder is pretty thin. So I use a strap that has a d--ring and velcro on it, put that through the slit on the tent, and then wrap the strap around the top rung of the new ladder. This secures the ladder to the tent when in use.

Sounds like a proper setup!

As mentioned it is an SB50 Anderson plug, be sure to purchase a gray one as they are color specific.

The ladder mounting bracket can be removed and installed on any flat top step ladder. Also the tent side of that mount can be installed to a Front Runner rack if your truck is on the tall side.

Do you have a photo of the Alu-Cab Expedition ladder bracket mounted on the Wolfwise telescoping ladder? I'm thinking about doing the same thing, and it would be fantastic to have a reference before I start drilling holes. I'm also wondering how long the bolts will need to be, and whether I'll need to make a back plate to spread the load on the underside of the ladder rung.

its simple. Take two bolts holding it to the top of the Alu-Cab ladder and match it up on the top step of the new ladder. Drill holes for the two bolts. Make sure you use washers on the nut side. Best picture I have right now

Alucab really need to do something with there ladder. At least provide a working recepe, an optional telescoping ladder, or even just the height of the stock ladder. Guessing and searching in forums when buying a new tent of this price makes no sense.

This has been an increasing problem for North American sales of Alu-Cab due to our increased vehicle heights and we have a telescoping ladder option in production that will be offered later this season. We apologize for any current inconvenience and will be offering them at a discount to all current owners!

I had the same issue with my stock Eezi-Awn ladder. Bought this for the win....

Thanks all for the bracket pictures! I finished ours today. I ordered the "WolfWise 8.5FT Newly Aluminum Telescopic Ladder, 330lbs Max Capacity" from Amazon for $73. It seems plenty long enough, with unused telescoping rungs when deployed on flat ground. It packs into roughly the footprint of the rear Alu-Cab Expedition door (see below).

The Wolfwise rungs appear to be simple aluminum extrusions. The stock Alu-Cab ladder bracket mounting screws were too short for the Wolfwise ladder, so I used 40mm long stainless screws (M8 x 1.25mm thread). I drilled the holes in the Wolfwise rungs with a 5/16" bit as I didn't have any metric bits handy.

Alu-Cab used some kind of sealant under the ladder bracket on the stock ladder. Metal silicone would probably work as a replacement, you might even get away with hot glue.


Rear Alu-Cab expedition bracket, shown with cheapie RV bubble level. The leftmost screw was too long to fit in from above, given the ladder bracket mounting pin. Note that it's easy to dent or dimple the extruded aluminum ladder rung if you over-tighten the screws. After the photo, I added black plastic caps to the two nuts on the underside to protect lower rung from scratching.

Nice job! Yeah that ladder is so much better than stock on these tents. I love how quick you can auto collapse the ladder also.
