Depends on the country of origin... If the body is demountable then the truck is still classed as a truck, and can therefore carry load, so is not classed as a Motorhome.. Here that would mean truck road tax not Motorhome road tax.. Add to that the frame to make the body demountable... I'd be looking at a drop top body... Just my thoughts tho. :)

Interesting, that's not an issue in the UK to my knowledge. As I'm mounting on a unimog I need a subframe anyway and will be able to lighten it to suit the fact that the box has inherent strength. Weight of the alloy frame 140kg, which will replace some of the foam sandwich anyway. Net net I think it will actually end up lighter than foam to foam.

I think it depends on how quickly demountable it is. If you used quick release turnbuckles then i think you would keep it as a truck. If it needs big spanners then i think you can argue its permanent and can be registered as a motorhome with the DVLA. Usual reason for doing it is cheaper insurance if its a motorhome rather than a builders van.....
