Am I going to regret this...

I am thinking about converting my truck back to stock this coming up weekend, I really just don't do enough offroading to warrant the aggressive lift and tires, and I am going to be doing quite a bit of traveling this summer, and need the rover to have better highway manners, so this weekend stock springs, shocks, sway bars and stock sized (or close) tires are going back on it.

I really wish I could swing a 2nd vehicle but right now the Land Rover has to be good on road as well as off.

So am I totally going to regret it the first time I take it on some trails?

A picture of how it sits now...

Hmmmm.... 1996 stock stuff... why would it perform better than what you have on there now? It doesn't look "too aggressive". With the larger tires the mpg might be worse around town but would it not produce better mpg on the highway? Just a thought.

Plus, it just looks cooler and, yes, you will regret it.:ylsmoke:

around town will be worse, but they'll make you have better MPG on the highway. the larger tires make it act like an overdrive.

if anything keep your lift, add sway bars and get 235/85/16 All-Terrains. trust me, you like it and still be able to wheel the crap out of the truck.

Im a big fan of having 2 sets of tires. Have 1 set of aggressive offroad tires, and one set of nice street tires. That way you aren't compromised for either situation (Im not a huge fan of all terrains, but they do have their place)

i don't like ATs either, but for a truck that sees mostly street, it's good for the DD/weekend wheeler.

i DD and travel with 33" MTs and love it. great MPG on the highway, even with the rack..

I agree that going to 235's or 245's would help and you don't have to go all the way back to stock... Nothing wrong with being realistic.

You can run 245/75s on a stock suspension. I tell you what I will give you my stock suspension for your lift. I will even include sway bars.

Storz,
I have the same setup as you and while I understand your dilemma I think you may end up regretting going back to stock. If you stay with the OME lift, the stiffer springs will handle fairly well on road, and even better if you put back on the sway bars. Going down in tire size will help you out with the stock gears. Right now I have 265/75 BFG ATs and love them. They're quiet, handle well, and do well offroad in most situations. I like the idea of a slightly wider tire (though narrower than 285s) because of stability. The slight lift and tires are a great setup in my opinion for on and offroad use. My steering is still sloppy on the highway from lifting the truck, but that will be addressed soon enough hopefully. Good luck!

Agreed with Jeff, the OME setup will probably ride more comfortable than stock, but in the end it's your truck. You should do what you feel is best for your needs, there really nothing wrong with the stock setup for light wheeling IMHO.

Also, pm sent.

just downsize your tires and be done with it. 235/85 if you want skinny or 265/75 if you prefer some width; same height just different widths...

I am actually running 235/85/16 Trxus MTs now ;)

then just move to some ATs that are more street friendly (i.e. quieter). you're setup is great now.

don't you come from a mainly car-oriented background? a truck just takes some getting used to.

you won't get any significant improvement in gas mileage by switching back to stock

Yeah, I've owned and raced/autox quite a few different sports cars over the years. Not really looking to improve fuel mileage, just make it more comfortable and stable at highway speeds (65-75mph)

I am thinking that I may try it with some different tires, and putting the stock sway bars back on.

I agree with switching to an AT tire and putting the sway bars back on. Perhaps add some sway bar quick disconnects to the front.

Other than that you could also remove any extra trail gear that may normally live in your vehicle.
