My nephew is a true adventurer having cycled across Australia, cycled numerous Moab trips and motorcycled the continental divide, to name a few. This week he was on gravel in the southeast region of BC and had this encounter:
"Rode the gravel this week and met a lady tagging hummingbirds. To our delight we spent a couple of hours helping her and got to trap & weigh humming birds while she banded them. This is a Calliope hummingbird that weighed a huge 2.7 gms. She puts a net trap around a feeder and then you drop the net with fish line. Then she wraps the bird in a blanket to band it. You don't get to see this on the #1 highway."
