Another WWII Bantam Trailer saved

I found this on Craigslist yesterday. I have been looking for a M-416 or Canadian M101. But jeep trailers just don't show up for sale very often. Then this one shows up on my local craigslist. It may be easier to explain what is wrong with it. as there is no rust.
Wow. rear pannel cut at the corner to make a tailgate. origional lunet uncut. landing leg and pivot casting missing. origional tailights and trailer plug missing.
Front corner a bit dented up.

Now my origional intent in searching for another jeep trailer was to put my camping modifications on a newer trailer. Something I would not feel bad about bolting crap on and drilling holes. Now I do not know what I will do with this trailer. I would still rather have a Canadian M101 for my modern camping rig.

I already have one restored WWII trailer. I think I will fix this up to a point. Be the care taker. put bolt on camping mods on it so I can return my restored trailer to parade duty I will also start searching for the parts it is missing to bring it back to 100%. I would not be against the idea of upgrading this to a Candian M101.

Sweet....why not just turn it into the full time ExPo trailer ?

I couldn't do that. I am a WWII vehicle collector. For me to hack a WWII trailer would be forbidden. in the collector comunity. the WWII trailer is the ultimate accessory for a restored WWII jeep. If I could sell this to a collector and buy a canadian M101 today I would. Until I find another trailer. This one will do. it will be converted to expo duty to a point.

But my ultimate goal was to have a trailer I could put matching rims on and color match to my 2007 jeep. I just can't bring myself to do that to a WWII trailer. So in a sence I am in the same boat I was in before. I want a modified modern expo trailer. But don't want to ruin a wwii trailer.:bigbossHL:

Nice find.

**looks at your signature :yikes:  **

I see you're a collector, so you already know the history of these old trailers and the value they have to some folks. I'd hate to see a Bantam get hacked up, but bolt on stuff would be okay. Keep you're eyes open a M416 or something more suited to your needs will come along. I'm sure the folk over on the G503 site would be willing to take that Bantam off your hands to help fund an M416 or other adventure trailer project.

Stick,

I am well versed at G503. I was really looking hard for a 416 or a CAN M101. I found one in LA it sold fast, then in Washington. It sold but was to far for me to travel. There are some CAN M101 at a surplus store near me but they wan $1700:eek:

so I stumbled on this one. I knew the value in the trailer. my buddy spent 1500 on his trailer and another 1500 restoring it. I know if I banged out a restoration on this I could get 1500 to 2000 for it. Then I could buy a Canadian. but they are hard to find now too. I should of bought one when they were all over for 700 bucks.

I may restore this one. then sell it so I can buy raw materials so I can build a true overland trailer from scratch.
