Anti Lock Light?

Last week I got stuck in park. In order to get home I had to unplug the tail lamps and then put I new fuse in the #1 slot. I drove home with hand signals. The next day after replacing a bulb holder that was shorting, I have fixed that problem. On the drive home the Anti lock light stayed on, but the brakes worked fine. I now can get it to go off. I drover about 80 miles this weekend on a climbing trip and the breaks worked great, but the light stayed on. Any ideas what might be up??? I have now pulled the abs fuse just in case, but would like to see if I can fix the problem… I'm going to be driveling the Rover to Utah and Colorado this summer on a climbing and camping trip with a lot of time in the backcountry. So needless to say I would just like to have everything in working order.

the abs system is a pain in the rear due to needing a specialised computer to even check the codes.

start with things you can do


check brake fluid level


, disconnect clean and reconnect all the abs sensors.

check the earth wire to the abs unit

then visit your local independant rover dude

Nate,

Sounds like you have a brake light switch fault potentially. You can blink the codes out yourself and see whats stored. You can also clear them by blinking out all codes and cycling the ignition. Here is link with the code list.

Fault codes

You will need a small piece of wire or a good paper clip to jump two terminals on the OBD connector in order to get the ECU to blink the codes. Here is a good description of the procedure:

I guess I have one more Questian on this. How do you Cleat the code? In the wright up it just says to pull out the jump wire and that that will clear the code. Well I still get the 2 6 code. Ive put in a new break switch. the Rover Drives and brakes fine and still the light is on:smilies27

With ignition on and jumper in place. Wait for the code to blink out and remove the jumper. The code should cycle through again even with jumper removed. Once it completes the blink out turn the ignition off. Leave the jumper out and turn the key on. If the code is clear the ABS light will illuminate and flash once indicating a cleared fault memory. If the light remains solid, then you either have a hard fault still present or the ABS light relay is sticking.

Dammit now I have a new problem. The Anti lock lite is going out now but the check engine lite came on. I did put in new bosh spark plug wires last week so I pluged in the trusty only OBD II and its not comeing on. on top of that its now working as the jump for the Abs light! Man what have I done!!!

Check the fuses in the interior fusebox. Chances are you blew one, possibly by installing the jumper wrong once? It happens. Check the fuses and go from there.
