Ready for some more?

Gwen has also an old Land Rover standing in front of his house. This one looks ready to be shredded, but actually runs pretty well.

This is only a young female but still reaches an impressive two meters. The anaconda is a constrictor type snake, so not poisonous, but the bite can be painful and full grown anacondas have been known to bite of one or two fingers.

Great photos, I'm enjoying them a lot. Looking at those most recent ones, I almost forget where you are; the mix of cultures and genetics make it look like you could be in any number of places in the world. :-D

Stange looking fruits and vegetables in the market.

In Nicaragua, those fruit are called Pijibay. They are boiled, you peel them and eat around the big seed. They are starchy with the consistency of a potato and flavor like a potato crossed with a yuca. If you haven't tried them, I highly recommend them (look for very yellow, solid feeling fruits), they are one of my favorites.

Okay, something completely different. If anybody can help me out with a Fairey Overdrive problem please do! Check these images:

The very rare Fairey 6337 Overdrive. In La Paz, Bolivia the guys welded something on the shifter, so I guess that burned the oil seal on the shifter.

The very rare Fairey 6337 Overdrive. Here you see the culprit. A leaking [we cleaned it] oil seal around the shifter shaft. It is a very small seal, and I worry not getting a local replacement. So we decide to get some more info on the specs of this seal before we get it out. Any ideas? Pleas get in touch.

@Surinamemotors, paramaribo, Suriname:
The very rare Fairey 6337 Overdrive. We put a lot of silicone stuff on the outside of the shifter lever. Hoping to temporarily hold the oil inside. Giving me time to investigate how to get a new seal. Again, if you have the info, do let me know!

@Surinamemotors, paramaribo, Suriname:
The very rare Fairey 6337 Overdrive. So the locking ring was destroyed and I set about making a new one from a piece of sheet metal, but the guys decided a tack weld would hold for some time to come until I can get replacement parts. Again, if you have the info, do let me know!

@Surinamemotors, paramaribo, Suriname:
The very rare Fairey 6337 Overdrive. I didn't know which kind of overdrive was fitted on the gearbox. A sticker on the car of "Superwinch" always led me to believe that this was a Superwinch Overdrive. But seeying the 6337 on the cover somehow convinced me that it is a Fairey 6337, can someone comment on this.

Coen,

you might want to start here

http://www.faireyoverdrive.com/

Seemingly he bought Fairey as they they were going under and still makes and sells parts

according to some inerweb rumours

Mind you on the parts page i did not see the seal you need- but maybe inside is only an O-ring

I see that they have Land Rover Overdrives, and they are different. Came across images of this box before, but has nothing to do with the easy solution they offered for the Cruisers. But anyhow I am composing an email to them right now! Thank! I need some good luck right now.... maybe they know something?

Coen-any luck yet? If you can get an accurate outer and inner dimension for the seal, or better yet the bore and shaft diameters, then you should be able to match it up with a replacement/alternative part number.

I'm driving now. The silicone seems to hold for now. But I should have measured the bore and shaft before we sealed it up. I know, I learn... I was hoping it would be easy to get the specs of that seal. I mean there should be drawings of that thing, right?

Once upon a time, I am sure there was a drawing and a callout sheet with the part numbers and dimensions of the components. Unfortunately, things that are generally durable do not warrant a long term storage cache of parts in the local auto parts store! Or sometimes even a listing in a catalog.:(

For seals and bearings, with accurate dimensions you can usually cross-reference a suitable replacement part without knowing the original application. If it has to come apart again, then take some measurements. :D:D

Hey Coen,

These pictures are great. Seems like ages ago you were here in Cochabamba. I've enjoyed catching up with your adventures in this thread. Sorry about your truck troubles. I have a shot of your Cruiser I took as I was driving away after out meet-up I thought you might like:
