Any 3rd gen 4runners (or 1st gen tacos) running 255/85 Cooper ST Maxx?

I was all but convinced to go 285 after briefly debating 255-85-16s. They often look too skinny and tucked in on 3rd gens. Then I came across https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/...t-maxx.346956/.

There are a lot of really good looking 255s on there. They don't look too skinny or too tucked in. I'm trying to figure out why a lot of the pictures of 255's on 3rd gen 4runners often don't look as good? I'm honestly a little bit surprised, I would have thought it would be the other way around since the earlier tacoma's/4runner have a narrower look and tires look bigger on them. Is it because I'm looking at other brand 255 tires and they don't look as wide? Is it because of the body style differences? Is it because you have to have a certain backspacing for them to look appropriate?

Anyways, I can't find very many pics of the st Maxx 255s on 3rd gens, specifically with lower backspacing (stick farther out) . Are there any out there?

Yeah I actually tried that first. There are a surprisingly few of them on there considering how popular they are on here and tacoma forums.

That looks good! Are those flares smaller than the limited style? What backspacing do you have on the wheels?

Those look like Tacoma wheels. If so, offset is 30mm.

What 4mul8 said. And yes, these are standard SR5 which are thinner than the limited flares.

Those are 2nd gen Tacoma 5 spoke TRD Offroad wheels. They should be 16x7JJ,+32mm offset, backspacing of 5.25".

Note that stock 3rd Gen 4Runner wheels have ~4.5" backspacing, which means the net effect of the spacers to the Tacoma wheels is about 0.5" more wheel protrusion over the stock set up.

The ST Maxx are square. Their contact patch is wider than the Km2 and ST so you might like them more than the other 255s. My 235/85 duratracs had a wider contact patch than my 255/85 ST.
