Any 3rd gen 4runners running the Gobi rack?

My gobi gets used all the time - by used I mean someone is walking on it either as a photo platform, to use the mounted TentCot, to just to relax on beach chairs to enjoy the view. In fact, I recently removed my RTT to the trailer just to have the rack more readily accessible again. You are right, they are pricy, but I didn't buy it for looks, just function.

You don't have to try and sell me on this, I've seen more than my fair share of this product in the FJ community. While it is a nice rack, I'm afraid I still have to agree with:

that would scare me. 1500 bucks for an adhesive mount rack? :Wow1:

Wow, $1500? Couldn't you get a custom rack for that much?

But then again I am able to sleep in the back of my truck so I don't have to live on the roof! Although, we do live on the roof of the FJ and the Baja Rack seems to hold us up there just fine.

It seems like a great rack. I have tried contact them by email and phone with no reply. They have one for the 07 4R and I am interested to find out if it will work on the GX. I guess I will have to look else where.

Seem like neat racks with neat ideas incorporated. Though I must say I ran my spare on the roof of my FJ60 for a couple months. It was only a 32" on a steel wheel and I only had a 2.5" lift on the truck and me being just shy of 6 feet tall, dammit, that tire was a PITA to get up there that high. I'll never run a spare up top again.

I also must say, there is no way in hell I would trust just an adhesive on the front mounts if I ran any harder trails than the main drag and the mall parking lot. One nicely placed tree limb or rock overhang and that thing is gonna tear the factory roof rack straight off the top of your roof. Probably mangle the ******** outta your roof while its at it. IMO, those front legs *have* to be bolted in if you are doing any serious expeditions or off-roading. That being said, going from the pics alone, it looks totally doable to get the front legs bolted into the roof. (And if you're spending $1500 on the rack, whats another few bucks to have it drilled and mounted to the roof properly?)

As to the pricetag of these suckers, they obviously bring a lil something different to the table as far as 4runners and roof racks go, but I also would never be paying that much for a full length rack for any vehicle. Like has been said, you could build or have somebody else build something near identical but customized to your needs for quite a bit less.
