Any 6.2 diesel Burbs on here?

Going to be picking one up on friday. Mechanically it seems sound but will need some paint and interior work.
Looking for some ideas for a light camping 4x4 vehicle. I have my Fj80 but at only 10mpg I don't drive it everywhere. I used to use my 95 ranger for this and my DD but at 6'7 i'm just too big so I started looking for something large, reliable and gets at least 20mpg hwy (requirements for a DD). Will post pics when I have the thing on friday.

From what I know it is a 1984 GMC 4x4 700R4 burb with the 6.2 on it. Owner claims 21mpg hwy and around 16 in town.

I've always liked those years or burbans and am familiar with chevy's having owned quite a few F-bodies.

Anyway if anyone else on here has a 6.2 post up some pics for me to get ideas.... not going to go too wild with this one and will leave the tire size at 31x10.50

I have 2 90 1/2 tons. One got "totalled" and I jumped on a good deal on another. Looking to turbocharge one and turn the other into a pile of parts this month. I don't have room to keep it as a parts vehicle.

Looking for the same thing out of mine, I have to be able to dd and highway it a lot.

To that cause, any suggestions on gear ratios for a turbo 6.2? Looking to put on 33's on it, it has a 700r4

I have owned:

77 Blazer 2WD, converted to 5.7L diesel, later converted to 6.2L
81 Chevy 2WD 3/4 ton, converted to customized turbo 6.2L w/700R4
86 Suburban 2WD 6.2L, all stock
86 Chevy 4WD 1/2 ton, 6.2L w/4 speed
95 Tahoe 4WD, 6.5L turbo (current DD)

I've loved them all! The 6.2L is no powerhouse, but is super reliable, easy to maintain, and will run on about any kind of fuel/oil you put in the tank. I averaged 17 to 21 mpg on all the GM diesels I've owned to date.

4.10's with a turbo. deeper with out or alot of patience.

Thanks for the tip. There is a set of 1 ton 4.10's nearby that I might check out.

I've only had the first truck since June, but I'm definitely into this engine. It just keeps going and going, and at around 20 highway mpg

RedRover.... followed your build on dieselplace.... so with the 6 speed swap you now get 25mpg.

My plans are
electric fans
very large air filter
j code intake
maybe electric water pump
synthetic everything

I'm going to stay the stock 3.73 set up for now. It seems to work fine may move to taller skinnier tires at some point.
For now i've got some cancer on the body to fix and an interior to bring back to life.
Has 146k on the clock.
