im cool with the basin, although I only made one trip in '13, I made about five in '12 (was a great hun year).

Im going to spend tomorrow running the dogs and trying to find some birds close(r) to home.

Sounds like Big Horn Basin it is. Perhaps since Outofrshell is the local guy you could come up with the "place" to go? You up for this? Next we just have to work on dates which are all good for us!

I found the best numbers of chukars in the Thermopolis area last season,it seemed there were more coveys scattered through out a larger area than around home. I have a couple places in mind that I found last fall that would be suitable for camping and are kinda centrally located in the area I hunted plus being a little more isolated from the main roads.I plan on doing some more exploring this year in the area and maybe find an even better spot to camp and also become more familiar with the roads and trails. I guess this whole plan hinges on how the chukars do this year, in the Basin populations can vary quite dramatically from area to area. I will keep you posted on how things are looking here, the best long range prediction will depend on the first 2 weeks in June if we get some nice weather with no cold or wet weather then things could shape up to be a good season. Stay in touch: Dave

The only thing with Renner is that it's pretty isolated there are birds there both chukars and huns I've heard but I've never hunted it. I'm not real familiar with that area but I think once you hunt there then you have to go either north or south quite a ways to find a place to hunt again.Maybe I can check it out this summer, our muzzleloader range is close by so I could spend a day looking around. I know SW of there there is a large ranch that is pay to hunt and they have some good wild pheasant hunting. Also north of Renner on the other side of Hyatville is the Medicine Lodge campground and there can be good chukar hunting north of there all the way to Shell but the birds were pretty scarce this year along this area. Im really considering a late September Sharptail/Hun hunt. Just cant decide which state I want to strike out in...NE or MT..lol. MT probably has way more birds and public land (but if I time it right I could hunt huns an chukar on my way home), but NE is way closer.

I hope to find some blues while archery Elk hunting and come back with the pups to get some high country grouse under their belts too.

I went and did some driving in eastern Wy and once again it was nothing but wasted time. The WIA's are nothing more than dirt patches, or sections of 1/2" grass that's about to be dirt patches.

I could do a sharpie/hun hunt if you wanted some company. One with good dogs! LOL! But I don't want you to feel like I am inviting myself. I'm not. just offering! I'll go anywhere anytime to hunt birds and camp!

More the merrier, in my opinion. I still haven't really nailed down what I plan on doing.

Anyone doing anything with their pups? Took mine to a lake the other day and they had a blast. I'm also trying to get them out running (more than what they do in the yard daily) at least twice a week.

Might hit the mountains with them in July to start grouse scouting.

I just returned from Montana - dog training mission. Prairie looks good and my friends are telling me it looks very good for birds in the middle and eastern areas.
