Any experience with DieselToyz toyota conversions?

I'm checking with my local smog ref here in the sunny South Bay to see if this is even viable. What I would like to know is if anybody has any experience with this company or know somebody who does? They seem to be one of a few whome perform such swaps, and I'd like to have a fuzzy feeling in spending $28k. Lol.
Thanks

Reason is better pulling powe, range, and flexibility in fueling. I'm also looking at needing an engine in the nearer future... I did a bit more research and in talking with another Co. it seems as the 1HD-Ft amongst other Toyota diesels are getting harder to come by? That and CARB here in Califunny hasn't gotten back to me as far as if they'll give it thier blessing. The price is high, yes, but these things need to be done to a letter for this fine state, or you'll be in a world o hurt. I get a lot from shops out of Ca. saying that it's kosher, but no real specific on how, and as stated the Referee here that would be needed to clear it, hasn't said word one yet.
Still love the idea, but it's seeming further and further out of reach.

What engine are you going to have them install?

Actually talked on the phone with a gentleman from your shop yesterday. Very helpful with info and other options for my truck. It was much appreciated. And no, not one of the shops that assured me that a toyota diesel would pass muster here in Ca. I appreciated the candor in that part of the conversation.

Maybe Tor has already mentioned this but have you talked with Georg from Valley Hybrids? He is out of Stockton CA and does a lot of diesel conversions with those engines. He knows the ins and outs on how to get them registered.

I've talked to George a bit on mud. I'll talk to him some more and see where the conversation takes me. One thing Tor mentioned that worries me is parts availability for the 1HD-ft getting thinner, and getting work done if I broke down in North Dump Truck outter Kazoo. I have the feeling that I would really have to get an education on diesel repairs, or at least that one.

I'm a member of their boards for resource purposes on my own swap, but I've never worked with them personally sorry. I did order my Fuel/water sep. through them off Ebay and they were really good to deal with in that respect. Their work putting the 1KD "D4D" engines into Tacos and 4Runners also looks near enough factory done that if you didn't know they never offered the engine in the USDM trucks you'd swear it came that way from the dealer.

I won't tell you that 28K isn't steep, that's for you to decide, but considering from your price description it sounds like you're going for a 1HD-X of some sort and a manual trans, I can tell you that that is NOT and easy engine/tranny combo to find (I'd be really interested to hear if they have one in stock and how long they quote you to start the process) in the US and really, these days, they're one of the only names in the game doing turn-key "all Toyota" conversions like this. Most others have shut down and sadly, the Toyota Diesel swapping market is not what it used to be several years ago. At this point, I'm not sure what other shop(s) is consistently taking on the Toy Diesels (read; has the engines/trannies and can get the parts needed to do the swap with the more complicated engines), and most all I know of at this point are shops doing the old 4BT swap into trucks here and there.

Out of curiosity, what chassis are you swapping the engine into and have you contacted them to see if they're "ready to go"???

Rather than convert, I would focus my attention on importing a clean 1990 LC80 with the 1HD-T.... 25 years old, pretty soon.

Exactly, I was just looking at a few last night in Canada and New Zealand. You could buy a truck like that, import it, upgrade it and still have some money left over if you went shopping with $28k.

Or, you can just use gas and save 20000 upfront since you can't possibly ever drive enough to make up the difference.

This is true. I daily drive a diesel, buts that because I have to pull a 20k trailer a couple times a month. I would rather be in a gas motor.

20 years to recoup cost at current! Lol. No, I'm not doing it fir the mileage. At this point, after talking to a smog tech school, and a referee, it's going to be more pain than I'm prolly repaired to deal with. It's been a week of oh yes and oh no on this front. In Talking to Tor at Torfab, outside of a Vortec swap, things get weird and expensive in a hurry in the case of Ca.
Even then, I'm not sure it's worth it for a bit more pull on a grade.
Thanks for the info folks
