could also make a good box for caming gear, would stop the pots and pans for rattling around, keep the glasses from smashing into eachother.... maybe even a box to store all the whiskey bottles..... is there an O-ring to seal the lid?

it probably had something really expensive in it and the thieves dumped the case. You should show it to the local cops and see if there's a path back to it's true owner. If not, the cops should give it to you to keep. Just my .02

Yep, completely air tight. Even has an air relief valve.

I operate on the premise that only 20% (or fewer) of us do what's right even when no one's looking.
Well played, NuggetHoarder :clapsmile
On the other side, if it self-vents, how about fuel/flammables storage?

I have one of those, had it for years now. Mine was used to ship pc boards/components. It has the relief/vacuum valve on it. I have been using mine to haul my hunting gear in. I can fit enough stuff in it to last me a week or more when I go hunting (clothes, food, gear, etc.). It get's very heavy, but makes a nice waterproof all-in-one container to throw in the back of the truck and be gone on short notice. During hunting season, I can just leave most of my gear in it all season long, then pull clothing out to wash it as well as replenish consumables. Then in the off season, I use it as a storage bin.

No addy on the label?

They are great cases, rather lightweight and very strong even when filled with 100+ pounds. The latches and handles are very sturdy and can easily be used to strap them down. You can pull the latches off of one side of the case and install hinges, it makes them a little more user friendly in certain circumstances. I have a fleet of Hardig cases, I use them to haul product to and from tradeshows as well as well as to haul gear in the back of my truck of Land Cruiser.

As stated, you should report it, that is no tool box, at least not for the kind weuse on a vehicle. The way the foam is cut out it looks to me like an instrument case, something like ground penetrating radar or X-ray used to check welds on a pipe line. Something along such lines. The air valve is for air transport, open it so that inside air pressure is stable at altitudes. That could be a very expensive case.

I'd use it for HAM gear, computer and video camera equipment case. If the cops don't know who owns it, you keep it and put it on Ebay, you can buy a tool box! If you do find the owner, I'm sure they will buy you a tool box! :Wow1:

Made some phone calls to some folks I know in the supply department on base. Turns out they were transporting a truckload of these from a sister base and lost a couple along the way. They have been sitting out in the sun for quite some time that's why all the labels are faded. Anyway, they are accounted for and I'm gonna take it back on my way to work today.

LOL, had you said you were near a military base, I would have guessed something like a portable air nav radarl unit (if they use those anymore), no idea. Now that we know it was the military, as a tax payor, you have my permission to keep it.....did you ask? They probably can't use it anymore anyway left out like that. It may go to the Property Disposal Office or the Supply SGT is probably going to take it home.....Happy Trails
