any international harvesters here?

I'm still waiting for mine to be finished. Supposedly, it's in the shop in Dallas being fitted with the TBI system and getting new manifolds or something like that...

Scratch that... It is NOT being fitted with TBI EFI at this time. The builder does not know how to do the EFI systems. He has to learn how to do it, so he's putting a rebuilt carb on it for now so that I have an alternate truck to drive. Supposed to be done by the end of the month, but I doubt it.

A good thing coming out of this is that I was supposed to pay him for the TTL to get the truck in my name (I withheld payment to him for my part pending the truck being finished) and for some extra parts I need to get it complete. So, a carb in exchange for not having to pay for these things.

It's not too bad a deal, since I may not drive much further than 300 miles out from Houston because of gas mileage.

I know its an old thread, but I just had to post my new project truck that I dragged home saturday:

Its a '62 Scout 80, farily stock as far as I can tell.

Short term plan is to try and get her driving as is.

Long term will involve replacing the drivetrain with something more suited to long distance travels - I'm looking at it basically as a body and frame to work off of :)

Nice. If you like Scouts Vote for this one.

We're actually working to keep the original drive train in ours. While the 152 is a little small I think a well prepped 196 would be sufficient for running down most trails. Might even be enough for freeway travel.

Trails, sure.

LA freeways? No way :)

Oregon freeways are only 65 so it's not too bad, we get left in the dust once we make it out of state though.

justih.org is a good place to check out for Binder specific stuff. GM 4.3v6's and Cummins 4bt are popular swaps.

Where did you get that front bumper on the Terra? I really like the look of it for my 79 Scout II.

I made it out of a box 2x5, cut the angled bottom off then welded that piece to the top, and connected it with some 2x2. brackets are just angle iron.

Nice trim bumper, but I had to mod it slightly to get my winch on this winter.

Don't post at Pirate till you're well into installing your 4 link.

And beware Binder Planet if you don't know much about Scouts and need help with basic mechanics. PM me for information about restorations and politics at that web site. I was banned forever from Binder Planet for fighting to get my Scout done, even though it was way past due. I found out recently that they allowed back my Scout builder who STILL has my Scout two years later, but have not notified me of anything. They will NOT tell you who to avoid. The people in Texas are those you have to watch out for. It's the wild, wild west with these people.

The first and third web sites are tiny, tiny, tiny compared to Binder Planet, but without the politics, and you will find some of the same people there.

You've been warned.

I have a 75 Scout 304 V8 727 auto, D44 front and rear, trac lock rear, warn hubs. I have been slowly working the kinks out. Its a beast for sure, but has 180K miles on the original drivetrain, and runs like a champ. When I got it it had sat in a barn for 6 months. I drained the gas, cleaned the carb, charged the battery and she fired right up. A prius it is not, but I get somewhere around 12MPG, not too bad considering my 07 f150 gets 14.

I have replaced the floorboards, parts of the bed flooring, body mounts, body supports, dash, converted to hi-steer, spring over, replaced the rag joint with a borgeson, braided stainless brake lines, new rotors, spring busings, and on and on and on.

Taking it on a 3 day camping trip to Big South fork and Pickett shake down run this Friday:smiley_drive:

I used to get 15-17 mpg in my 66 Scout with a 152 and three speed trans back in the early nineties. Wasn't fast though and going up the big hills in I-5 in Southern Oregon sucked when it was raining. Had guys towing triples passing me laughing like crazy.

How about a turbo'd 196 with EFI and electronic ignition.:wings:

It's good to see a few IH fans on here. I've got a 65 model 80 bone stock and some rust but better than most in my area.
