Any Mirror Lake (Kodiak Adventure Products) Owners?

Is there any owners of the Mirror Lake trailer from Kodiak Adventure trailers?

We are looking at ordering a trailer this week. I am interested in their construction materials. Should hold up really well.

Second option is a Krawler for SoCal Teardrops.

I've spoken with the guys from Kodiak. My impression is that they make a top notch product. What I know for sure is that Mirror Lake Trail (which they have run with the ML edition) is no joke. I don't think SCT is on the same playing field. If you're looking for something that will handle a hardcore trail, Kodiak would be on my list.

SoCal Teardrops - Just an overall feeling that I've developed in reading, here on the forum. They seem to have a fine product. I just don't see it being used as a hardcore offroad trailer.

Kodiak, based on going over there website and talking on the phone with them.

Don't take my opinion as gospel, as it's not a very strong opinion. Perhaps, I should have tempered my first post with more detail.

SoCal Teardrops may be a better product for non-rock crawling applications. I don't know. I think that the single best teardrop available is the Nestegg. But I think's it would be terrible for hardcore stuff.

I'm interested as to what would lead you to this conclusion.

Neat affordable little trailer. Be interested to see more pictures, and understand what options fall under their price structure. I know the SOC trailers hit 18-20k pretty quick once you add the electrical and kitchen. Not a huge fan of their kitchen setup. It's really geared towards setting it up separate from the trailer.

Hey all,

We bought one and love it. Spent quite awhile debating and looking before ending up with the Mirror Lake. We are a family of four with young kids, so we plan to use it for basic camping as well as backcountry trips. Haven't taken any tough trails yet, but the few we've been on (Berdoo Canyon at Joshua Tree and Harry Wade/Ibex area at DV) made me very comfortable with pushing it on longer trips and harder trails. Planning on a trip to the Racetrack in April or May, the San Juans (CO) in Summer, and Mojave Road in November.

I appreciated their minimalist design emphasis: keep it strong and think twice about add-ons. Great people and fun to talk with, also. Regarding price, I'd expect to spend at least 12k, perhaps more, once you add some of the basics (like electrical, rock guards, etc...) Great quality, though, and fun to customize. We bought their original prototype trailer, but added several things we knew we would want.

Nice looking bbelleau do you all sleep in the trailer or have you a ground tent???

We split up: the girls sleep in the trailer and the boys sleep in a tent. We don't mind the tent (he's almost 5). It's not perfect, but we wanted something that we can store easily, is easy to prep, and gets us to the places we love to go. The trailer makes it so much easier to take my daughter camping (she is 1), which means we actually plan trips and go camping! I'm sure anyone with young kids can relate.

Also, we do some boys only trips to mix it up.

Aside from the basics, we added a pass-through, water tank, and solar prep. The pass through is a simple option that is totally out of the way, but really handy once in awhile. It's also nice as another ventilation option while sleeping. The water tank is just great for us, adds a little water capacity without taking away storage space.

I wish I had added underbed storage, as it is pretty light on places to tuck things away. Also, a built in inverter may have been nice, as it's not always ideal to use the 12v power taps. Not a big deal, though, and I'll be adding one some day soon.

Oh, a couple more quick notes...

If you got the baskets, they tend to come off the wall during travel if loaded too much. I'm still experimenting with the best way to load and travel with them. Worst case, it's easy to leave them down while traveling. All that said, I really like them, they're easy to bring in and pack, and make for a great shelf for the laptop on movie night

Also, my least favorite feature is that the bottom of the windows are a little sharp on the legs while getting in and out. I think an easy mod will fix this, but haven't gotten to it yet (like the inverter!). Fred had some great ideas there as well.
